I'm currently running a venice 3000+ / vnf4 setup and am looking for some new memory to replace my twinmos sticks. The VNF4 has a max vdimm of 2.9 so I'm looking for something that'll give me decent speed without the massive voltage needed by the likes of VX and redline. The twinmos will do 225 2.5-3-3-8, but won't run at tighter timings so with my venice I have to run it at 200 2.5-3-3-8. Ideally I'd like to find something that'll either run at 250 w/loose timings so that I can run at 300htt with a 5:6 divider or at 200 with tight timings that'll do so at <2.9 volts. I bought a set of redline xp3200 to try out, but it can't pass memtest at 200 2-2-2-5 with 2.9 volts and I can't give it any more voltage with this motherboard...

Anyone got any ideas on a pair of 512 sticks that would be a good match for my config?

get the mushkin black XP3200- its rated 2-2-2-5 @ 200mhz, but its tccd/tcc5. mine will do ddr600(2.5-3-3-7 @ 3v).. ofcourse YMMV. :)

(if anything, you're gonna want TCCD. 2.5-3-3-7 and 2.9v is perfect for it!)

So what's the cheapest 2x512mb tccd kit available at the moment?

Mushkin Redline HP3200. CH chips $146 Monarch Computer - 1GB kit

2.9 will get you ~ 215-220 2-2-2-5, ymmv of course.

I have mine at 3.1 and get up to 255 2-2-2-5

Funny you should day that. I bought a pair of those exact sticks just to try them out and they give me errors at 200 2-2-2-5 @ 2.9V. Not exactly what I was looking to spend $140 bucks on. This was @ 1T though, maybe swapping out my winnie for my new venice will help my 1T timings 1T out...

Then again it could be cooling problems too. At 2.9V do I really need active cooling though??

EDIT: I'm also running it on a VNF4 if having a cheap mobo could have anything to do with it.

2.9 will usually get you just about nothing with CH chips. BH will get you around those speeds with 2.9V.

Is there any way to tell what kind of redline sticks I got without taking off the heatspreaders?

Another vote for OCZ rev 2. I'm about to buy another set. On my P4 it ran 290 at 3.4.4.8 on 2.8V and on my DFI NF3 754... You can go DDR600 speeds if you get enough air over the chips. Check the anandtech review of the dfi to see how far they push the rev 2 platinums!

Right, I´m surprised that they do this with UTT-CH5 and not UTT-BH5.
I never saw UTT-CH5 reaching 2-2-2 @ 2.9v :slobber:

GeIL Ultra Platinum PC3200 cost about 110us for 2x512MB and they do 278MHz 2.5-4-4-9 @ 2.9v on a DFI nF4 board.

Amaysing at 2.9v, but those timings are nothing of interest :/
Is it 1T?
