Designed by mickey mouse/jason with my consulting of course ... :p: lol
Hold down is real nice too, but I won't be needing any hold downs soon.....hmmm I wonder what that hole is for on the inside ;)
Can't wait to use it.... Nice job on the container kid.

I'm guessing something *not* unrelated to this (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67893) ;)

Btw YHPM Vince, I really need some help with this X850+Win2K :(

Rigging up my mount... Cut out a hold down out of cutting board stock I have to match the cpu bracket on the p4c of course. The hold down it came with is nice, but not good for dothan + p4 bracket. No biggy.
3/4 inch insualtion fits perfectly.

The second half is almost complete.. What is the dimention of the funny shape in the bottom??

ilkkahy
07-09-2005, 12:02 AM
I would say its diameter is about 48mm and height 3mm. Container itself weighs about 2.7kg.. kingpin or harley can enlight how close did i guess from the pictures :)

Thats a damn nice container. Should be effective with dryice.. with ln2 there are cheapers ways to get better cooling (surface area placed close to core). I could make solid container someday myself but only if i get testing bench made. Solid aluminium container could be bit more sensible when thinking of producing in larger numbers. Im looking forward to see some results.

You mean the circle Reggie? It's 1/2 inch round and a little less than a 1/4 deep. The shape looks a little distorted because of some water sill inside the container from wet sanding the base before I took the pics.

Look's like this was made from a solid tube of copper, that is a hell of a copper over there. What's the thickness of the base?

hmm, with that thickness, it should perform better with LN2 than Dry Ice...

Do you fill it all the way up?

Can you give a quick explanation? :p:

Sure Ron.....

For starters, it isnt tall at all. 3 inches shorter than chilly's, and when it is between 1/4-1/3 full, the ln2 spit comes out of the top a little, so any shorter would be bad. Every once in awhile, I got a stinger on the back of my hand when adjusting mods.

My impatience is at an all time high atm, so instead of waiting till I got the board/chip working properly again, I fired up the container just to see how it performs with a 3400mhz/ln2 760 chip and p4c800-e.

First off, I mounted a temp probe in the side of the lower part of the base drilling a small hole large enough for temp probe and taping it down:
http://pic8.picturetrail.com/VOL256/1324330/7857526/103890497.jpg
Hows that for contact? :) This was done only using the hold down and springs with very little pressure to just hold container upright over chip with a tiny bit of downforce.

ALL testing was done with my system in windows and running 8m and 1mpi around 3300-3400mhz/1.55-1.6v for whole duration.
As far as the container goes, it takes WAAAYYYY longer to bring temps down then it did with chilly's container for obvious reasons. I found that the container needs to be about 1/3 full for temps to come down the fastest.
Once the container got to around -140c or so, it only took a small splash to go from -140c to -184c in about 10 seconds. It really holds a load good at -184c with the dothan.
Here is shot with ln2 bubling in the container less than a 1/4 full:
http://pic8.picturetrail.com/VOL256/1324330/7857526/103890511.jpg

Here is shot with the container completely empty, and temps are still at nearly -184c lol :). Keep in mind, this is with system on and running PI at 3350mhz.
http://pic8.picturetrail.com/VOL256/1324330/7857526/103890503.jpg

WHen ln2 boils off and container goes dry, temps start to rise...but slowly. Maybe 1-2 degrees or so every 2-3 seconds, till loaded base temps get to around -160 to -170c then maybe .5-1 degree every 3-5 sec.

THere is still much to do, but based on some initial and very incomplete testing, I really like the performance of the container at all temps so far, especially at above -140c or so. I played around for a bit trying to maintain loaded temps within different temp ranges, and it was not hard to do at all. The extra mass for sure helps keep that temperature guage from bucking like a bronco. In fact, once the container got within the temp range I wanted to keep it, only very small pours were required. This is pretty important in a container IMO, with all the cold bugs that are around today in diff. hadware.

Prelim results look good so far, but still much more to do with it with other chips, more mhz, and more vcore. Just figured I would post some thoughts about it in the early going.

My dewar/pressure head:

Actually if a few drops hit your hands they just go POOOF in like 1/1000th of a second as it hits your skin, you almost don't feel it!

I spilled probably 2 oz. up in the air that hit my chest with a t-shirt on, scared the HELL out of me!!! I touched the shirt and it was "cool" but my skin underneath was untouched... LN2 is weird

GLoves probably did that to him......
.....it is a fact that it is safer to NOT WEAR CLOTHING(gloves, long sleeve shirts). IF the ln2 gets on clothing your are wearing, IT WILL BURN YOU!
I would feel safer benching barefoot, then with socks and sneakers on. IF it spills onto your sock, YOU WILL GET BURNED! If it spill onto your bare foot, it rolls and boils off, no pain. The only time it ever "hurts" is when I am adjusting mods and container spits a drop onto the back of my hand and it stays there for extended period of time without me knowing right away.....it will sting you bad....I have marks on my hands and arms to prove it. I have spilled it onto my ankle area(socks) and all I can say is if you are not quick getting those socks and shoes off, your getting stung hard :)

ln2 vaporizes or boils off harmlessley when it touches the skin in small ammounts....usually you dont feel a thing. I have gone through 500 litres at least in the last two months for numerous hours of benching......I KNOW WTF I AM DOING NOW.

I speak from alot of learned experience with it. I always try to wear a short-sleeved shirt without gloves.
Misinformation will get you in trouble every time people. Do your own homework. There is alot of safety info out there on LN2.

I can back that up. I work with LN2 for my job about 3-4 times a weeks. Wearing clothing is dangerous. If I had it my way I would just work naked, but my boss won't have it. You can actually dip your whole hand in it for a sec and not get burned if your not wearing gloves. I pick tubes out of LN2. I used to do it with long metal tweezers and gloves. Now I just stick my hand in there and grab them and place them on the rack- faster, and less chance of injury. Strange, but that is just the way it is.

when u wear clothing or gloves the LN2 is absorbed through the layers and onto your skin and then has nowhere to go, so the pressure just builds because it cant bleed off into the atmosphere and the lingering nitrogen is what gives u that good ol' burn. ive seen someone sit on a puddle of LN2 (it was in the recess of a chair) lets just say life sucked for a couple months for this guy.

JacobHansen

I dont use gloves for ln2 either. It makes it alot more difficult to reach the little components at the mb or the gfx with gloves then without.

Ive done my own homework with dryice and ln2.. Its not for kids !!!

I never wear gloves or longsleeve when handling Ln2, its not a good combo.
