Time has come to ditch my (2nd system (http://home.comcast.net/~dvrh10/S478.JPG)) S478, DDR and AGP system for an ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131539), DDR2 533 (which one?) and a PCI-Ex16 nVidia GeForce 6800 GT.

The problem I have is deciding which DDR2 should I get, there are 3 choices but one I know why it cost more than the other two. I'm leaning more towards either of these two:
1-GeIL DDR 2 Ultra Series (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144522).
2-OCZ Gold Series (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227044).
This one is a more obvious one but still:
3- Patriot PDC21G4200+XBLK (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=83711).

Choice 1: GEIL I'm considering it because I see a couple of fellas have had a good experience with it.
Choice 2: OCZ, well, I have OCZ DDR400 and it's been very stable and I like that I can overclock and still be under warranty as OCZ's site states it.
Choice 3: PDP, well it's CAS 3-2-2-4 compared to the 3-3-3-8 that the other two are but............

I'm not planninng on overclocking to no more than 4.0GHZ and I'm going to use the 540 that I have which is just sitting on my shelf, question is
Which of these 3 sets would be easier to work with? Which of these sets can easily help OC my 3.2 to 4.0 on air?
Anyone has had a personal experience with either of these 3? Would not be worth getting PDP's if the other two can do the same job as PDP's XBLK?

BTW, I'm ordering the ASUS mobo, DDR2 and PCI-Ex16 GeForce 6800 GT sometime in mid July or the end of July, so I have quite some time to decide based on your recommendations or experiences with DDR2.
No Corsair XMS DDR2 675 though, too expensive, from the $244 it was back in the beginning of June to the $300 current price tag.

Asus P5WD2-P is a better choice of mobo.

I would go with the OCZ myself, the PDP is good stuff but I have had a few bum modules. Giel has had a lot of problems getting DDR out at speed and have not tested DDR2 from them. Ive had DOA modules from Giel more than once from retail.

what do you think of the kingston hyperX PC2-5400 2x1GB....i'm lookin at 2 gigs of ram adn I could swallow the punch and get the OCZ or Mushkin if I HAVE TO....but they are almost 200 dollars more...? help...

Not sure what Kingston is using for memory on those modules. The PDP would be best second choice as they use D9 fatbody like the OCZ.

D9 is the BH-5 of DDR2

Kingston doesn't use Micron on their DDR2.

yeah!, I know the P5WD2-P is much better but this system will remain as my "2nd System" as well, so top notch parts are not a must, but I will be getting the P5WD2-P sometime in the near future for my personal main system. For now the P5LD2-D is somewhat a top notch level 2 mobo, IMO.

Well, I'll go for the OCZ Gold series being a little less expensive than Geil's and PDP's, although PDP's timings are a little better than OCZ's (PDPS's 3-2-2-4 @ 533mhz) 3-3-3-8 @ 533mhz. Could I set the OCZ's to 3-3-3-4 and still be able to push 533mhz?

push to 666Mhz 3-2-2-x @ 2.2v, Micron D9 can do this all day.

hey fugger...i was reading through the online manual for teh P5WD2 and it says "does not support ram using 128MB chips or x16 double sided memory sticks"

what does that mean exactly.......would a 1024MB stick need to have either 128mb chips or have 16 64MB??? I'm confused...also I bought the PDP 2x1GB PC2-5600+XBLK
this will work right?

*Corsair PC2-5400UL use those D9 babies

*And off course Crucial own Ballistix series with reference numbers:
-BL3264AA664 (256MB)
-BL6464AA664 (512MB)
-BL12864AA664 (1G)

From OCZ I don't know which series uses D9 IC's

what about Corsair 5400ul ?

Corsair is very good DDR II now. I can run 1050mhz with UL at stock volt on P5WD2.

The difference from the Corsair model to the Crucial is €100 .. it's a bit. No one tried the Balistix with the D9 chip?

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I have exactly the same question. I have 16x64mb dimms working great on an asrock board. In fact they overclock all the way to 340mhz and more despite only being 266mhz

Can I break the rules and use 2 of them on a p5nd2 board or will they not work at all. Iam thinking they just wont run dual channel or at very high speed, its only an 805 rig so that wouldnt matter too much.
