The one you sent you me is too big to use as an avatar :( Perhaps the staff can increase the max avatar filesize?

edit: 40kb is needed for these to work at 180x180.

"Save for the Web", choose JPG as a format, then slide to 80% (also shown as Very High, but needs fine tunning). Easy as riding a bike :D

Also regarding that news avatar, you may want to have the flash coming from the flash bulb on the camera and not from the lense.
