hey guys,

I was wondering what experiences you've had with different NIC's @ high FSB's??

I had a 3Com (3c905b) that worked fine for a while, but then would disconnect me every once in a while and also corrupt files when downloading or transfering to shared directories on my server.

I then switched to a newer 3Com (3c905cx), but the same would happen.

I think it has to do with the KT400 chipset because I never had a problem @ high FSB with the KT333.

I have since then swapped it out for a Linksys and my problems seem to have been resolved. I just wanted to know from some of you OC guru's what you think the best NIC would be for OC'ing. Let me know what you recommend. Thanks!!

Happy Holidays to you all!!! :toast:

i have used my 3com 905b at speeds over 200 fsb. i had no connectivity problems what so ever. now i use the onboard nic on my max2 board at 195. so far, no issues as far as the nic is concerned.

I had problems with 2 RLT noname Cards in my old KT7aR, they disconnected when transferrring large Files at about 148fsb...
I use these Cards today in my KD7 @ 191fsb without any Troubles...

I think the motherboard/Chipset plays a great role, too.

Yes, I agree. I think that's what it is because I've never had this problem before. I'm currently at 208FSB, but that's my limit with the NIC. If I go higher, I get corruption...

So I'm currently being held back by my NIC. All other components run fine @ 210FSB and above...

I've had several Linksys LNE100TX NICs go over 215 without crapping out. They are my NIC of choice for overclocking.

Thanks mdzcpa!! Happy Holidays! :toast:

So far that is what I'm using and it has not given me problems, but it's an older revison of the LNE100TX, v4 I believe. I just wanted to hear some opinions before purchasing my next one.
Thanks again! :D

Cool, do you recommend any model in particular?

I have one, but's a few years old... Not sure if it will perform as well as a newer model.

Thanks!! Happy Holidays! :toast:

DLink 530TX+. Inexpensive and have had them to 212 on a kr7a (53 MHz) with no drop-outs or other problems.

Sweet, thanks for the advice!!

Looks like I'm going to be testing out a few of these that are being recommended. It's strange that I've noticed for some reason the cheaper NIC's work better when OC'ing. Both my 3Com's give me trouble past 204 and the Linksys is happy at 208, at least.

I'm not sure it makes a difference, but I've been using the LNE 100TX V5.1 cards.

Amen to that :D. Intel NICs are pretty much the best, though nowadays there aren't really very many that are absolutely horrible. All that I can think of offhand are the old Linksys NICs.... those ones wouldn't even allow a few MHz FSB change. The new ones seem to be better though.

I've been using Netgear FA311's in all my boxes with no problems.

any Intel is pretty tolerant of high PCI speeds... at least the newuns, why not try your oldun and see how it goes...

Dlink 530TX+ 212FSB still working with ADSL fine :P

Thanks for all your help guys!! :toast:

I'm going to try an Intel NIC that I have here. I'll probably get my hands on a D-Link and newer Linksys LNE100TX v5.1 also to do some testing. I'll let you know how it goes...

I'm also going to try cooling off the North and South bridges. I've heard it seems to be the cause of corruption on these KT400 boards...

Happy Holidays to you all!! :toast:

Intel etherpro 10/100... Mine came out of Compaq systems, but they both handle 44MHz PCI bus extremely well. Next to that, there's good performance, too.

Most Realtek chipped NIc's (Sitecom and the likes) are quite tolerant, too, but thsoe are less performant.

I use the Netgear FA311 an not had any problems out of them at high fsb. Ran fine at 225fsb, for everyday use 200fsb an they are inexpensive.

Whatever you do, never buy a Netgear FA310TX NIC.

<<>>Biggest POSes ever......

I scored a couple of EEPro 100+ NICs at 1st Saturday for $1 apiece, haven't put them to the grindstone yet but I'll see how they perform across the board.

Next time down there I'll probably pick up some 3Com NICs to grill them as well.

Interesting, I switched from Intel EEpro 100+ nics to the DLink because I had one die at high FSB. From what's been posted here, sounds like it wasn't the FSB that killed it. Maybe it was just time for that card to die.

Didn't get mine for $1 ;), p*ssed me off at the time since the card cost me over $50 new (some time ago!).
