I have A64 3200+ 754 socket and P4 Prescott 3.0GHz.
So I voted both of them.

No Jack I think I mess you.
I would say a poor student normally has not FX processor cos it is expensive.
Anyway enjoy your hardware and keep on computing! :toast:

Yeah being a student is something hard but I would prefer a student not work like a slave... :(

I have Opterons, I have Athlon XPs and MPs, I have one A64 3000+ ,I have a C3 in the media system and I have one lowly P4 1.8Ghz with a 400MHz bus OC'd to a 600Mhz bus 1:1 on stock heat heat sink and stock voltage that I can't believe has run for 18 months without a glitch in the cheapest motherboard I ever bought.... run on mouth :)

AMD fanboy right here. I got an AMD Thunderbird on my current computer (yes, my dad doesn't really like me buying stuff often, can't wait till I get a job). And this summer my dad is going to buy me an Athlon 64 gaming rig for a high school gift/birthday. (Yes I'm only 13)

So hes going to give you a company built or is it a custom built?

All Intel.

From an old P4 1.5 ghz I use strictly for surfing the web to a render farm with one P3, four dual P3, two P4 2.8 ghz and an older dual multithreaded Xeon cpus at 1.8 ghz. Those aren't allowed any form of net connection - even stuff d/l'd from the net.

Last AMD boxes were from the K2 era and constantly crashed thanks to the lousy chip sets and low quality motherboards available then.

But things have improved in those areas - quite a bit.

Hope the price of AMD's high performance cpu's comes down enough to make them cost competitive in hard core apps like 3D rendering.

So hes going to give you a company built or is it a custom built?

He was going to buy me a company built, but then I told him how building one at home is cheaper, has better performance, has all the parts done to your needs, is a lot of fun building it, so he finally agreed to order parts this summer and let me custom build it. Just hope I don't break anything :slap:

If they have decent performance for a reasonable price then I'll buy from either company. :D :D :D

AMD has such nice processors, so sad to see they don't even come close to the yields that Intel has... :(

Btw, MrSeanKon, I thought you were saying that you will buy from either a company that has them pre-built or from a company that sells individual parts. Now I see you meant either company as in Intel or AMD. But I agree, buy from whatever company that has the better product, but currently AMD is killing Intel in mostly everything, especially gaming which is what I do  Currently I am and AMD fanboy and will likely stay that way until Intel comes out with other processors like Dothan.

Pentium M 730 (OC'd) for gaming, Celeron D 335 for general surfing, multimedia etc. and a Celeron M 360 in the laptop. :)

Haven't noticed Intel to be superior by any means though and will change back to AMD when it's time to get the 64-bit dual-core solution. ;)
