Ordered most of my stuff over the past few days but have been undecided about the CPU and Video card. Bought an Abit SLI board, 1g of Kingston HyperX (512x2) and a Antec True Power TCII-550. Already have an Antec full tower case, a dew SATA hard drive, cd/dvd drives and a SB Audigy 2 ZS from my old system. Was originally going to get 2 6800 GT's, not just for games but I would like to run 3 monitors (used to have a Parhelia). But after looking at the reviews of the 7800 it almost seems like the better buy and wanted to get some input on it.

On the processor side of things I was looking at a 3700+ SD. My intention was to OC it a little bit (something I have not done since the slot A days) and maybe try out some liquid cooling. My other two options are a X2 4200 or a 4000+, anything more then that and the price jump gets a little much. The X2's kind of look good since they perform better on encoding media, as have been converting a bit of stuff for my PSP as of late. So would also like some in put there.

BTW this is my first post here and wanted to say there is a lot of great info that helped me sort though a bit of stuff to help make choices on some of my other purchases.

Welcome :). May be a while before you see a decent price on the 7800's. But definitly worth the wait.

I'd go with the 4200+ if you have the means. That and a 7800 with room for another you'll be set for quite some time.

Check out the Watercooling forum for help with that...If you need it

I would go with the 3700+ for the processor, I doubt that the benefits of a dual core would really shine if all you do with it is encode things for your psp lol. The 3700 is the better deal I would say.

I would also look at the 7800gtx; I'm probably going to get one soon to replace my 6800 ultra (getting a whole new PCI-E system though). It is undoubtedly a better deal than two 6800gt's SLI'd, plus you can always add one more if you have an SLI compatable board.

Thanks for the welcome and the advise. I was starting to lean toward the 4400+ but am having some problems finding a 4400+ in stock and was looking to build the PC this weekend (nothing like waiting till the last minute). Looking at the Anadtech review of the 4200+ I amy got that route with a XFX 7800GTX then save some $ and get another 7800 later.

Add for another question. If I had to skimp would I be better off getting a 3700+ and the 7800 GTX or a 4200+ and a 6800 GT? I knkow that neither is reall skimping but if I needed to spend a few hundred less. I am guessing the 3700+ option would be better.
