it seems that for those whom own this motherboard and are not willing to spend on a new mobo [$200+] (and ditching AGP for PCI-Ex16 just yet) but want the power of dual core I guess this is "Great News".

DFI 865PE-TAG Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 865PE ATX Intel Motherboard $79 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136156)

BIOS Version: 3. Support Dual Core CPU. (http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bios_download_us.jsp?PRODUCT_ID=3325&CATEGORY_TYPE=MB&STATUS_FLAG=A&SITE=US)

The DFI 865PE-Tag can not support dual core:

Dear Customer

Thanks for your letter again. Intel dual core CPU just only works on based 945 or 955 chipsets motherboards. Other chipsets do not support dual core CPU, including 865 chipset. The statement is a mistake, we will remove it immediately.

Sincerely Yours truly,

Tech Support

Hello,

Thanks for your rapid answer, however I don’t understand that motherboard can not support this cpu because in the web page of you dfi site, this motherboard is compatible.

Yep, they sure did change the BIOS webpage. I took a screen shot just in case this kind of crap would happen and it did.
One of the reasons why I'd never consider a DFI board, they showed me horrible service when I needed tech support for my 915P-TAG and now this. BTW, that DFI board was returned to newegg for a different brand.
Well, viva la ASUS and ABIT.

What to believe? Does DFI lie?

The 865PE-tag is really compatible with p4 D??

If you ask, then yes! They lie!!!

I never considered a DFI for my builds and I don't think I'll ever will, not just base on this incident. For future builds I'm only going ABIT or ASUS.....till GIGABYTE changes that ugly blue PCB board to BLACK, I may consider one. Hmmm....that's about it, ABIT n ASUS.

IS POSIBLE !!!!!!!
ASROCK has a similar product, Pentium D on 865pe. Pity that they haven't update their English page yet, but the Chinese page is here:
