Well here's a few pics of my new tube. It was built by jason57 along with my previous one which was also awesome(thanks!) I have only played with it a bit and haven't saved results. Looks like my probs last weekend where due to the bios. Tryin for max cpu-z I was hitting 3700+ which I think is great on DI. This weekend will probably be 2D benchin and maybe some 3D w/ my X600 I didn't get the new one yet and this one OC's like     . Later I may have a few pics of it insulated. I figured a way to cover the bottom so I had very little (if any) condensation.

Very nice.

Decent diameter too. Should work good.

3700Mhz on dry ice or was it a typo? :slobber:

Dont you have any problems because the hight of youre mounting plastic is verry close to the motherboard? so the insulation job gets difiicult. Instead of a few cm i say about 10cm, the only thing left is insulation that makes itself airtight under the plastic mounting.

Like mine:

Just let the insulation a bit longer dan the base is and its airtight :)

Very nice hold down, is't billet or what?

mrlobber: Nope not a typo. Had hit 37xx but crashed on the save. I still have the IHS on atm. Not sure if I am going to remove it yet. I think if I did without a doubt I would have the 3700 screenie.

Waus-mod: I have used that method and it wasn't bad very slight condensation. I now am using foam tape and it is almost completely sealed except for the contact point. I'll post some pics later today. ;)

Dani: The hold down is just a type of plastic not sure what kind.

I don't think I'll 3d bench till next weekend maybe some super pi and whatnot this weekend. I need to play w/ differant bioses. Headed out for the DI in a few. :)

It's machined out of one piece. :)

Looks good so far. Cant wait for some good results.

Well was plagued w/ problems. Last night worked on it for 1 1/2hrs. w/o stbility. Went at it again this AM. Still all kinds of problems. Finally figured I had no good contact. Went to bios and saw temps. pushed on the tube and temps. dropped about 25C. After PMing jason found the springs he sent where a demo for the install he said I shouldn't use them. This was the first weekend I tried the springs since I decided to cut the IHS off. What happened was the springs contracted due to the cold. So I ran again without the springs but was almost done w/ my DI. Here's a validated shot and I included to screenie to show what voltage I was really at. I must say I am impressed. :)

Not bad, but I think that cpu has some left. U said the springs got condensed because of cold? Hopefully next run you'll get 3.5 or higher.

The chip is definately capable of 3500+ Just got to get everything set right again. This was a run a few weeks ago with the other tube jason57 made. Now I have the IHS off so I should get better once I get the voltage and ram set right. ;)

You're doing dice with the IHS off?
I'm pondering it, but am scared lol

Yup dice w/o the IHS

Thanks! No suicide yet I really want to push for 3700 and think it can be done. This is the first time I ran a chip w/o the IHS so I have to relearn all the voltage settings for it. I just started OCing less than a year ago and every time I have removed the IHS from a chip I killed it (my 4000+ which easily ran 3300-3400 and a 3500+ winnie). Thank goodness I didn't kill my FX. Running last night and this AM I wasn't making good contact with the chip. My last go at it (almost out of DI) I got it better. Once I get good contact I'll be rolling again. I am sure I'll work on more runs next weekend. :)

Just a Q, why must you remove the IHS?

harleybro
06-19-2005, 05:58 PM
Not a must the 3500 run was with it on. By pulling it off I am hoping to get to 3550 or better and stable for benching. :)

Ah is it just to get closer to the main die?

Removes a layer of thermal transfer, whih provides better temps.
