View Full Version : DFI NF3 250gb and OCz EB not get along?

So I had to bite the bullet yesterday at Fry's after they wouldn't swap my K8N Neo that I accidentally got wet and kilt. Of course they don't know that shhhh. So I bought the DFI Lan Party NF3 250gb, and got the extended service contract ;). Bring it home and at least it powers up, but immediately it gives me a dram error. So I try all sorts of swapping memory out and such and finally get it to boot with one stick in slot 3. I then up the voltage to 2.8v for the ram and save the settings and power down and put the other stick in slot 2. Yay it boots up! Now I start tweaking it, one thing this bastard child of a board has that the MSI doesn't is a million and five different memory timings and voltage terms.

So here's the real issue. I left the memory settings at auto and left most of the oc stuff to stock, for the time being, and it refused to post for me. I tried setting it to 3.1v on the dram and 3-2-2-8 and the rest of the timings to auto. No post.

WTF is with this hellspawn of a board? There's about 15 timings that I've never had to muck with before. Also what's with it not liking ANYTHING being in slot 1? I even tried my OCz voltage booster in there and it didn't like that much, either.

As you can see I'm a bit flustered from this, any assistance?

i had a DFI infinity nf2 for a week with my ocz 3500eb, it was seriously unstable, sometimes it'd post, sometimes not, sometimes i'd get 250fsb, sometimes 160, then it suddenly died on me, rma, same thing, really strange

Gah, it'll be my luck that I'll have to take this SOB back to Fry's and get some K8T800 board.

Least I'll have fast IDE till I get my MSI board back from an RMA.

You could always try a different BIOS version, but my DFI also never liked Micron RAm too much. Had very bad overclocking results with that RAM in the DFI. The DFI seems to be a Winbond and Samsung lover, but a Micron hater. :D
No, honestly, I think it's just a matter of mem timings. I didn't try all settings either and left most of them at auto. And I think that's the problem. Some auto setting might not be of good for the Micron IMHO.

Any idea what to set all 20 of those settings to for it? o_O All I know is CAS, RAS to CAS, tras, and row active delay.

Why is it only posting with ONE stick in and only in slot 3, too?

Anyone know if the Gigabyte K8NS is any good? Or the Abit NF8-V?

my dfi doesn't have much issue with the micron -5B C chips that go into ocz EB:

Well the board is going back regardless. The fact that it won't boot up with memory in slots 1 or 2 tells me this board is a basketcase. I'll probably trade it in on the NF8-V. I've had pretty decent luck with abit boards, at least.

Dam.. No that DFI Board is the best 754 Socket board out there IMO.. Do a search here for the setting and tweaks, update the bios to a newer one or one that is know for behaving.

I have 3500EB and its been in 4 diff DFI NF3's. My bro LINX still has it in his DFI NF3. Never had any probs with it.

Hrm, took it back and got the Abit NF8. Booted right up no problems, with one of the sticks. I think the other one some how died. :( It's reading my CPU to be really friggin hot, though, what's up with that? I just put a watercooling setup on it, too. My probe is reading at 40 but I think the BIOS was reading nearly 70...

Edit: DDR Booster works and the temp reading was fixed with an updated BIOS. BTW I couldn't update the BIOS on the DFI board because I couldn't get in to windows with it.

Argh!! Is there a bad batch of these boards out there?? I'm totally stumped w/ mine.
