Looking at getting the NI8 SLi mobo, can I use DDR400 on the board or is it not backwards compatible? If not whats another LGA775 SLi mobo that I could use with DDR400.

LGA775 mainboards are not compatible with DDR. Desktop DDR memory modules are 184-pin and DDR2 are 240-pin (those are required in LGA775 mobos). So, the answers to your two questions are: NO and NO ;)
I'm no expert at Intel hardware, but I think I got that right... ;)
