ot my first (solo) day running some dry ice with my cpu.

As requested, I made some pics:

I used a container from Jort , well know throughout [M] (actually I won this thing :king: ).

Installation:

Good contact :).

Good insulation ( you'll find it out if it was good enough :) ) , and you can see my TCCD Patriot sticks with the red, shiny heatspreaders.

I already got my ice pellets, so I didn't hesitate for the next step:

Filled up and what do we see:

No problem so far, time to bench :).
I got this sandy up to 3 GHz stable with my watercooling, after day of beching, this (http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=22102) was the furthest I could get this cpu. I got a SuperPi run @ 3121 Mhz (http://www.madshrimps.be/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=101615) . Perhaps my score can be a little better, but I don't have any low latency ram atm. But benching was my minor worry, I wanted to be a bit more experienced with dry ice :D.

So I was running out of dry ice, time to disassemble my setup:

Oops, my insulation wasn't good enough. Air had gone between my Armaflex :(.

When trying to get the container off, my cpu got stuck to the container  . Being that cold, I couldn't get it off immediately :D . Time to bring in the heavy stuff:

http://www.easypanic.Be/dry%20ice/IMG_0535.JPG

5 minutes of blowin' some hot air and my cpu was saved....... "was" as I my finger slipped and pushed some pins on my cpu :( . A half hour of pushing and cursing was enough for a re-insertion in the socket. I had to use some force but it got in and my pc booted perfectly :D.

So my day turned out alright, I learned alot and I pushed my cpu a bit more to the edge  .

Next time I'll use some more insulation :super: .

And don't disassemble while still frozen...

Congrats on your first DI experience. I had a similar ice over situation on my first try. But it's nice to see a SD running alright at those temps.

Hmm, how far does your Sandy clock on air? IMHO, dry ice should be cold enough to be able to push the cpu more than 3100 Mhz? Or am I just too optimistic?

Nice adventure, btw :D

It went past 3200 Mhz, but then I ran out of dice. :(

On air i can go to 2900, but 2800 stable.

How much kg's of "not enough" did you get :D ? I'd like to know as this weekend I'm planning my own first dry-ice action.

he got 9K of it.

he was trying hole day to get superpi stable he said to me :D

hey easypanic your running out of armaflex or you still have enough?

otherwise i'll try to grab some more of it and send it too you :)

2" tube? Thats the reason your OC suck. I used the same thing, 2" tube, base as wide as mounting holes and 3" the other way. It SUCKS. Does not hold load at all. The time I ran without insulation all the frost melted off as soon as I put a load on. Booted to -40C and rose to -23C in bios all 3 trys. My DTR maxed at 3122mhz Pi run as well.

Easy there Jort :D

@easypanic: Looks like you had a fun first-time DI exposure :yepp: quite similar to my first time in a few ways actually. I've had that "CPU frozen to base" problem a few times so far :D

Nice pics, and GL next time :)

Maybe we just have no clue what we are doing? Because 200mhz max screenie over stable water isin't very impressive and the fact that I have the same design and size tube getting the same crappy results leaves me to believe the tube SUCKS.

That's for sure. To defrost it quickly fill it with hot water. Be careful it'll wanna bubble. :D With my old cooler cpu's normally popped out. Ran a new cooler on monday and was first time it didn't I'll be running more tests with it this weekend and post my results. :)

its not because the cpu won't fly on dice the containers sucks
i'll just eas and just forget about it :)

I will not state comments about the container , it was capable of oc'ing a FX-cpu to about 3500Mhz....

My sandy just needs some burnin' ;).

At first 3Ghz was the limit, burning it in helped me to get about 3280 Mhz so far. Going for 3500Mhz :p

can't compare a cpu against another, i can be that he topped out :)
with dry ice you can easely find your max(with lnĀ² even better but thats not for everyone possible)

like metreox his 3500+ was max 2.7 on water and way above on dice:)

Eh.... Whats the base temp under load?
