Just loaded the Windows 2003 Server to play with but PCMark04 refused to run on Divx test, the system suite crapped out and can't complete, I know on XP we'll need to load the Windows Media Encoder 9.0 but it's not compatible with win2k3....anybody find a way to get around this?

WME 9 Series *IS* compatible with Windows Server 2003. What you need to do though, is making sure to have enabled 2 services. They are: Windows Audio and Windows Image Acquisition (WIA). Just go to Services.msc and set them borh to Automatic, If they're not.

Go to MS website (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5691ba02-e496-465a-bba9-b2f1182cdf24&DisplayLang=en), download and install it ;) Try again and report back.

EDIT: BTW, please trim your sig a bit. It's waaaay to big!

Yes, I bench only on Server2003. Also, OPB's PCM04 runs are on Server2003. Do not install any additional codecs as PCM04 has all it needs, except for WME9. Uninstall PCM04 and WME9, and do it again, with WME9 first. Do you have DX9 installed as well?

yup, dxdiag said I have 9c. yes I didn't realize OPB was running his on the win2k3 as well so I'll uninstall the PCMark04 and any other codec packs and try again, will report back shortly.

thanks for the help man, finally got it to work....it was the dang media player 10 that built in to SP1, had to reload everything without SP1, though even with all network related services disable and absolutely nothing loaded in the background I'd lost 10 points, switching back to XP now :D :toast:

You evidently still have something wrong..... I gained a significant amount of points using 2k3 over xp. I have them setup as dual boot with almost the same amount of services running (10) on each. I don't have an xp score published, but here is my 2k3 score 6948 pcmark04 on 2k3 (http://service.futuremark.com/servlet/Index?pageid=/orb/projectdetails&projectType=11&projectId=2981285)

All I did was use dxdiag to enable all 3d functions, you need dx9c, media player 9 or higher, and media encoder 9. It should function exactly as in xp.
