Intel anticipates that when Dempsey is released in the first quarter of the next year, the Xeon will have a front side bus of 1066 MHz and start life at 3.80 GHz, with other flavours clocking at 3.60 GHz, 3.40 GHz and 3.20 GHz.

Thanks for the post.

I'll wait a bit for a Dempsey system - but the news about the price cuts in the current Xeon line is very welcome.

still no 4ghz even with 65nm and a new core? hmmmm thats odd
this might be a signal that dempsey will be faster at the same clockspeed as a prescott though. the 3.8ghz dempsey should be faster than intels current single and dual core top of the line chips, so faster than an 840 and than a 580... cant wait to see how it performs and how cool it runs :D

how cool saaya you are very optimistic is still netburst so i think will have the same problem as prescott when they changed it to 90nm it will be hotter i guess....

heh I wonder how it`ll OC ?
saaya remember Tejas ? Intel promised to make it 4,5 GHz :)

but tejas was canceled guess why

well in the intel docusments i saw at cebit intel claimed that they managed to tweak their strained silicon process significatnyl for 65nm to reduce leakage and capactiy of the transistors wich should reduce the power consumption.

hmmm maybe your right and i was a little too optimistic... i guess the 3.8ghz dempsey will consume as much energy as a 3.2ghz smithfield.

Well it ought to. Cos less tech process allows less voltage on the core, which reduces total power consumtion.
Leviathan18 it was too hot for cooling with Intel`s box.

Thx so much Leviathan...Was originally gonna go 530J or 630 775, but I'll be waiting for these now too :)

And Saaya, how come he's not XS News Staff yet ;) Though anyone know if these will work on 775 ???

Bitpower 3.4 is also impossible. Maybe 1066 will be only on EE like it was before ?

maybe itll be 3866 3599 and 3333?

Good point, though I've never known Intel to be modest in their ratings...so I really do doubt it :(

Half Multipliers possible?

Half Multipliers possible?

They are a reduction in performance but manufacturers dont care for it much...so yes it is possible.

THough I just hope the mobos for this arent expensive... :( ...and I hope ATI releases one lol. But that's asking too much :p:

never seen Intel using half multipliers

Ummm...here's a noob Xeon question...is there no such thing as a single Xeon Motherboard ???

And Here's another one: Will one processor work in a dual processor mobo ??

perkam Intel doesn`t produce single Xeon mobos. Maybe somebody else does, but really what`s the point ?

why do you want a xenon cpu ???? they are very expensive way to have a pc registered ecc memory expensive mobos ???

and for one xenon board there is the point like single opteron boards besides these will be dual core so you can put just one.

i have a dual xenon server runs fines for what it does (dhcp and file server) but i think an opteron is far better than any xenon.

never seen Intel using half multipliers

The Pentium 3 Tualatin 1.13GHz/133FSB used an 8.5 multi ;)

I know there are others though. However, half multis on Netburst chips are pretty much unheard of.
