Confusing USB Problem

I have a wheel and a joystick that I use to play Nascar Racing Season 2003 with. And when I plug them into the usb i get an error saying, the usb device is unknown device, and the usb device cant be recognized and has malfunctioned. So I said, ok Ill try my printer, works fine, my utility to upload from camera, works fine. So, I go and buy a new joystick, brand new, and I get the same error...whats going on. I have tried reformatting...ive tried all kinds of things, I just dont understand :( :mad:

dumb question but did you try going into control panel > game controlers > add, and manually adding it. it doesnt mean anything when you first plug it in. Controlers and joysticks are not always great for PNP install the drivers for it and see if you still get the message.
