OPP has already annoited the Redline as his current favorite. Mushkin binning seems to have been very careful with regard to not only speed but voltage characteristics. To me though, they seem to be close enough in performance that price would likely be the tie-breaking factor.

I would also go with the best deal you can find at the moment. Performance seems to be about the same. I'm willing to bet if you went through 10 sets of each you'd find a few God chips and a few average ones in both the Redline or the Gold VX. Either way you'll still be over 250fsb with 2-2-2-5 timings if you supply the voltage.

I believe that sums it up perfectly.

Thanks for the vote Ryder and John. Glad that a fellow memory manufacturer can share an honest reccommendation for a good product.

but they are not the dual channel package though...so you just need to order two?

I'd think its hard to say which is better, as expected, some VX goes higher than some RedLine, and vice versa. I think the first couple people who posted their VX4000 results and could only manage about 255Mhz really turned a lot of people off to the VX4000. Recently, I haven't really seen any VX that won't hit 260Mhz easily, which is just about the same as RedLine. Although, then there is the cold boot issue with VX. Not sure whats going on there but you may want to also take that into consideration.

I'd just ordered another pair of Redline XP4000....can't resist!! going to try to run 4 x512MB and see if I can manage anywhere close to 250 @2-2-2-6 1T, my current pair is prime stable at 250 with very tight timing and require only 3.1v, can prime 255 @3.2v. These Redline rocks, and they are so puuurrdy :D :D :D

My vote also goes to Redline, they seem to be getting slightly higher than the VX.

From all the reviews the Redline seems to be able to do about 10 mhz more. But here's the deal, the OCZ if you look, Anand's review comes to mind, seems to be a tad faster. And you can get for almost $50 less. No way 10 mhz is worth $50. I like both companies and have memory from both, but when its $40-50 cheaper with very close performance its a no brainer you take the money savings.

yeh, the OCZ is very cheap compared to the Mushkin, over £50!!!

When I read that review I wondered how, when the OCZ's test results were better all the way until the end, the conclusion was that the Redline was the equal or better. It only had a higher final clock but if it beat the OCZ in any of the tests, it wasn't many.

Run those tests again with two different sticks and the results could easily be reversed. They are both using the same chips and are both rated to 250 and are both from respected companies...any differences are minor and luck of the draw. Both have had stellar results and both have had RMAs.

I think it really just comes down to whether you like red or gold spreaders. :)

I will add one more comment about them. Mushkin makes it clear that the warranty is only for the original, registered owner. OCZ is not quite so restrictive. If you later plan on selling them, one (OCZ) will most likely have warranty carried over, the other (Mushkin) will definately not and this may have an impact on your ability to resale, or at the very least, what you can sell them for.

Edit:
Just to be sure, it would be nice if an OCZ rep chimed in here about whether or not the OCZ warranty covers only the original purchaser, or just what exactly is OCZ's policy with respect to proof of purchase. TIA.

IMHO I would go with OCZ. Its cheaper, better warranty, and they are on the foums willing to help people out. I was having problems iwth my Gold 2-2-2 and they were helping me at like 8:30-9 at night, and they don't treat me like a retard like BFG does. They assume I know how to put the memory in.

yeh, the OCZ is very cheap compared to the Mushkin, over £50!!!+ customer service is the most important. These 'boutique memory seller' got to give their utt/winbond based memory purchaser 100% rma support since almost all buyers will run it with high voltage. Like one of the companies I dealt with, they just try to be so rigid with warranty on their utt products, but at the end they will loose customer.

I think as long as you have the sticks that enough proof of purchase for OCZ :p:

I agree with the "second wave". ;)

While both are great companies and seem to have great products, OCZ really has taken good care of me with CS and the lone RMA i've needed. Mad props. They really do live up to their name, and they'll take care of you if you need anything or have problems.

But, it's kind of odd to actually rec OCZ because it's cheaper (or onpar price-wise) compared to the comp...I don't think i've ever said that to anyone before, because it's never the case...But this time it is, so check it out. :D

I have been thinking of trying mushkin but the support from OCZ is excellant. I have had my VX3200 running up to 264 2,2,2,X (or there about ;) )@ 3.5v. so it's kind of hard justifying a new set. I have gone through an RMA and it went real smoothly which is definately a plus in my book. :toast:
Here are a few tests at 263 :

I really dont see you going wrong with either. OCZ I've heard nothing but rave reviews from their customer support (plus it seems one rep. lives 1.5hours from me). And as far as mushkin they have always had high quality memory, the black L2 series was some great bh-5.

Thanks, that speaks volumes.

When it comes to reselling stuff, guys are always posting "brand X comes with a lifetime warranty" but I've read enough of the fine print in the warranty disclosures to know otherwise.

Its nice to know that OCZ will honor that warranty.

Now, to bookmark this post just in case I ever need to refer to it. :)

from my experiences

ocz warranty PWNS mushkin's "lifetime" warranty (to the original owner! :fact: )

i got taken care of by mushkin in the end, but the trouble i had to go through vs the LACK of trouble i had to go through with my OCZ was enough for me to never buy another brand unless the performance was GUARANTEED better by a NOTCH

redlines and vx's are still hit or miss and the price difference and support tilts the scale towards ocz here...

btw, my ocz vx does 262 @ 3.4 on my nf3...over 24 hrs prime stable, over 8 hours looped 3d stable and of course, every superpi test stable...i think my mem controller is holding me back from going farther...

Same chips and same PCB, both great brands.... luck of the draw for which will do better...

even if the redline does outperform by a few MHz... I would go with OCZ, save $50, and be covered with the best warranty and support in the business...

even though I perfer red heat speaders... OCZ
