Looking to upgrade my memory...

Already have two sticks of OCZ VX 3200 (2x512), should I get another two sticks and run (4x512). The other option would be to replace the VX with OCZ EL Dual Channel Platinum (2x1024) PC3200 CL2-3-2-5 184PIN 400MHZ. Currently runing a DFI NForce4 with Winny 3500+. Don't know how well the Winny will handle the four sticks of memory, might drop down to DDR333. In a months time looking at getting a Sandy once the X2 chips hit the streets here (canada) as the Sandy's price might drop a little bit.

Currently I running the VX @ 3.2v 2-2-2-5 T1, would adding two more sticks cause too much strain or heat issues for the mobo. I know going to 4 sticks will force me to run T2.

Suggestions... welcome

Thanks

DFI NForce4 Ultra
OCZ PowerStream 520W
Winny 3500+ /w XP-90
OCZ VX 3200
74GB Raptor
ATI X850TX

:welcome: to XS! :toast:

Anyways, 4x512mb is way too many chips for your mem controller to handle so your OC capability will be none. It won't go anything over 200MHz. At least that's what I've heard from many people. One person couldn't even boot with 4 sticks... Even though 2x1gb sticks aren't as good with OCing as 2x512mb sticks, they will probably still be better than having 4x512mb and trying to OC with that...

Thanks for the warm welcome ferrari_freak

Not to worry, when I ordered my extra memory a Sandy 4000+ some how got added to my shopping cart by mistake. :) That's my story and I sticking too it, if questioned by the warden.

Thanks for the heads up about the Winny (4x512). I have read other peeps running (4x512) with Sandys with mild over clocks 220+ with little or no problems. Hope to be one of those people. Once installed the warden will never know.

This reminds me of the stubborn people who use only 1 256mb stick or 2x256mb sticks cuss the belived the 2x512mb or 512mb alone didnt overclock as well, well unless youre a major Futuremark person who basis his whole pc on benchmarks and nothing but benchmarks dont do it.

If youre like me and only bench with 1 stick to get the max oc and be done with it and care more about video game and system performance get the ram.

Im actually gonna get 2gb in the future also or maybe 1512mb cuss right now for somegames 1gb isnt enough anymore and im starting to notice a slight slowdown after a couple of hours of play when i exit the game windows takes a second to catch up cuss of lack of memory.

Yeah, I personally prefer having 2x1gb sticks becuase even though it hs a lower OC, the difference in real life gaming performance is miniscule. The main thing in which 2x512mb sticks OCing capability will shine is in the benchmarks and I don't take benchmarks as life, I take gaming as life ;)
