I know the Colin McRae Rally 2005 kicks ass. i've tried the demo and love it. :) They say that the demo version is not finalized and maybe different that the full retail version. How do you like the tracks and game play overall?

Another question, there are large hype about GranTourismo 4. Is it going to be available for PC??? :D I'm so sick of seeing console games... I hate console games... :nono: big no-no. :nono:

Any good Nascar/stock car Racing games out there?? What's good?

Any other good racing games? please post what you play and like about.

thanx...

If you're looking for the best race game at this moment, you wanna check out GTR. By far the best race simulation game ever made.
Try the demo first, you'll see what I mean.;)

I also liked the GTR demo.

The best I played for NASCAR is NASCAR Racing 2003.It has a lot of tracks and mods.To bad papyrus didn't renew their license....no 2004 or 2005

I also liked the GTR demo.I'm still waiting to get the game.

Wow, just saw that the game was only released recently in the US. Thought it would have been released earlier than that.
They also just released a free add-on, King of Ovals, which gives you the ability to race on several oval tracks.
Haven't installed and tried it though.

GTR?? I used to play F1 2002 racing-to-GT Racing mod, also called GTR but i don't think that's the same game as the one you described hmmm... Looks interesting. I'll have to check that out further. Are the graphics really good?? is it brand new or something?

definitely not the same as GTR 2002 i was talking about... although the cars and tracks used are similar... i'm gonna try out the demo now.

Yep,
that's from the free add-on, 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, one of the most beautifull circuits in the world.
Try the demo, you won't be disappointed.

if you're into rallying, forget about colin mcrae, especially parts 3 and 5. yes i think 5 is crap compared to 4. anyway if you want the ultimate rally simulation out there, grab richard burns rally. that is as good as it gets. it has a steep learning curve, so if you're not really into realistic simulations, stay clear of it, for all others.. it rocks and once you manage to control the car good enough, it's pretty rewarding. if you want to enjoy it to the fullest, grab a wheel. i still refuse to buy the momo force and am continuing driving using keys, which is another challengelevel entirely, but manageable over time :D
if you're a graphics whore like me, you might want to check out live for speed 2. there's a 28mb sized demo out that allows multiplayer and all. it really rocks. a buddy and i usually play it during our lunchbreak :), but yet again, this is one of them titles like rbr... to master the cars you need to spend a good deal of time..

next up is a mod based on an existing game. the game is f1 challenge 99-02 and the mod is prototype c, that is now into the 3rd "service pack" totalling so far a little over 650mb. well worth the download, as you get a great deal of different protoype cars that have raced the lemans 24hrs since 1985. it really is fun.

oh and besides that there's still the old trustee grand prix legends with mods to crank up the eyecandy big time.

the rest has been mentioned above, gtr, (toca) race driver (or dtm race driver as it is called over here)...all of those are fun

and about gt4 on pc. not going to happen unless some craze develops a fully *working* ps2/3 emulator. gt1 could be "enjoyed" on a pc using virtual game station, but it wasn't the same as on the ps1, even with higher resolution and all...

My thoughts after I downloaded and played the GTR for days:

I'm unhappy with it. :( The graphics isn't good, they use same cars.. just like GTRacing 2002 I used to play. Only improvement i saw was the background sky. Cars in the GTR got me reallly tired of them. Same boring viper and ferrari modena cars. What happened to cars like beautiful Nissan Primera GT(:D), Renault Lagoona, Peugeot 206, Alpha Romeo, Citroen, Ford Mondeo/Focus, Vauxall Vectra, BMW M3, Audi S4, Volvo S40, etc???? I WANT THOSE CARS, THE REAL STUFF!!

One of the most disappointing part was control on turning. It feels like im trying to move a 60 ton Tiger tank on a curvy track at the speed of 100 mph, makes the turn completely impossible. i have tried everything... checked for control sensitivity and ranges what not. I could never get the car to turn well. I had no problems with the GTRacing 2002 though, never had this much problem turning. :( Comes from a person who has experience in lots.. i mean LOTS of racing TOCA2, I know how to race.... but GTR is rediculous....

So I went back to Colin McRae Rally and NFS:U2. Graphics and physics are much more fun. :)

hey Sky, thanks for the heads up. :) What did you not like about the CMR5 compare to 4? I haven't played 4. what makes 4 better? Are the graphics good?

I will check out the Richard Burns Rally...

could you tell me what did you not like about 5 compare to 4? I would like to know what it is...

can i get a demo of it? what's your thoughts about 4 and 5?

yea i love it too. I'm still at it and playing the hell out of that game. The graphics and physics is very fun. :D I wonder if they will ever going to come up with some expansion pack of maps or something.. that would be soooooo awesome

yeah i too bought it at launch cos i loved the demo and have been playing it ever since :) thru numerous formats i've lost most of my good saves :( an expansion pack would be great perhaps with more cars too

i got the GTR demo but dont like it, the graphics are nowhere near as good as NFSU2 and the manual gear selection is difficult to get to grips with if your just looking for some arcade style fun, plan to give colin mcrae rally 4 or 5 a bash next as i havnt played a colin mcrae not on Playstation, which werent that good

took me some time to reply, eh? been playing some more rbr :D

anyway.. i didn't play the full game of cmr5. the reason being that i got
the demo and instantly hated it after trying all cars on all tracks. well
the cars were a toyota celica, a peugeot 206 and a lancia stratos (yay!),
tracks available were one track each from sweden, england and germany.

ok here's a rough & short translation of my post on a german forum back
when it was new:

i installed the demo and customized the settings to fit my needs at 1024
with 24bit z, 85hz, max viewing distance (10 iirc), texture quality max
and aa to 2 (ingame). that should give sufficiently high framerates while
at the same time offering good enough visual output (could have upped
the resolution, but usually on first try i take something like 1024 or 1280).

anyway into the demo. first car & track combination: germany with the
toyota celica. while the car was nicely modelled and textured -
same level of quality as cmr4 basically - the track itself was bland. pretty
scarce / empty landscapes and all. ok, let's hit it. well after the first few
corners i got the impression that this celica is a rwd drive car or some-
thing like it because it handles real bad - note: i thought the current
celica is an awd car, but hey, artistical freedom, i guess ;).
anyway.. i barely manage the stage - more blandness ahead, boring all
around.
oh well, next car, the pug. ah ... much better. got best times on all of the
3 available tracks - piece of cake, because this car handles real good,
much like i would expect it to anyway. then the last car, the stratos was
due - one of my favorite cars as it is a rwd car from the glory days of
rallying. once again the car was nicely modelled - but then again it might
have been a 1:1 copy of earlier cmr-episodes, who knows, and it drives
as i would expect it to, given the rwd thingy.

let's talk about sound.. well it's nothing to write home about. it somehow
sounds like a game some years back, the title of which i can't remember..
anyway the sound is the last thing in this title that would make me reject
this game.
my issues are the graphics and the handling. while colin never really was
a "real" rally simulation, we have seen various stages of arcadish handling
in these games, #3 being the worst by far, #5 being worse than #4 (imo).
the boring graphics really pissed me off. i mean, i don't know if any of
you follow the wrc-broadcasts, i do and what i saw of the german wrc
in 2004 did look way better than what was offered in that single stage
of cmr5. the tracks in cmr5 lack detail. i guess i was somewhat spoiled
after a few brilliant tracks in the last installation (cmr4), especially the
uk stages 3 and 4 with all that grass, trees and all.. even a bunch of
the usa stages really rocked. not so in this demo.

i mean, maybe i get this concept of releasing a demo to an upcoming
game wrong. but my idea of a demo is to get customers that are likely
to buy the game to see / play it and think "omg, i need this". not so with
this demo. i mean, if i was the makers of the demo, i would have put
in one of the best tracks available in the game to make the customers'
jaw drop (drooling and all) and make them draw their wallet to go and
buy the game. kinda like what they do with movie trailers... show all the
superb scenes to make you go see it and once you're seeing it, you
notice the rest of the flick is utter shiat, but after all you already bought
the tickets... ;)

well in this respect i was completely dissapointed with the demo. and
from what i heard from people that have it and played the full version,
they didn't like it too much either - so i guess i was right with the
assumptions i made based on the demo ("demo represents about 70%
of the completed game" my 'behind' ;) )... also with rbr being released
only a few days later, colin didn't stand any chance of being bought
(least not by me).

bla.. i hope this clears my statement about cmr5 up a bit... anyway it
is just my opinion. if you want to test it first, go and rent it some place
and see for yourself whether it's worth buying or not...
blaaaa :D

wow thanx for the brief comment about your experience with the cmr5. Well appreciated. :)

I too noticed that the handling/physics isn't highly realistic.. sorta like arcadish like you've said. :) very interesting what you said...

I'll have to try out the CMR4 demo and seriously take a close look at the Richard Burns Rally... Sounds very tempting :D

thanks again. =)

For simulation you want Grand Prix 4.

Best racing game out there bar none, I still play it all the time and ive had it (literally) for years.
