View Full Version : GeIL Ultra Platinum PC3500

I just bought a pair of GeIL Ultra Platinum PC3500 512MB memory sticks (Dual Channel Kit), though its going in a Soc. 754 motherboard so the Dual Channel bit is rather redundant.

Anyway, anyone know what chips this memory uses?

And can anyone reccommend what speeds and voltages I should try running it at on an Asus K8N-E Deluxe (with OCZ DDR Booster - give up to 3.4v on this mobo) and a A64 3000+ (good for anything up to 2.7Ghz ;) ).

So...it might be either;

Winbond CH-5 or Mosel Vitelic 5ns or Winbond BH5\UTT.

Is it possible it could be the Mosel Chips? GeIL says they use 4.5ns modules...

Anyway, how do I find out what I got?

Serial Number on Heatspreader: GL1GB3500UDC

Just look at the edge of the ram chips (you don't have to take the heatspreader), if you see two small metal tabs on the ends of the ram chips then its Winbond.

I do indeed see little metal tabs...so its Winbond BH5/UTT then?

Is this a good thing? Roughly what can I expect from this RAM?

Thanks for helping!

Try booting at Cas3 to confirm it's utt :D
IF it doesnt boot then you definetly have some, and you can then browse the highest stable bh5/utt clocks thread, and copy down all there settings, and try them all! :D

Right....it doesnt boot at CAS 3, nor does it like me upping the voltages to above 2.8v.

I really need some help identifying this RAM, as it has me completely lost. I'm literally up the creek without a paddle if I dont know what the chips are, as I've no idea what timings to throw at the things.

Can anyone give me some definitive way of identifying my chips?I know its one of this mottley crew of chips.....but which one?

Ultra Platinum PC3500 (2.5-3-3-6-1T) --chip--> Winbond CH-5, Mosel Vitelic 5ns, Winbond BH5\UTT (new ones)

Oh yeah.....updated rig in sig.

Just found 1Gb DDR PC3200 Patriot XBLK for 218 Euro (£146) TCCD with free shipping to the UK (company in Ireland I think). Is that decent TCCD? Should I buy that rather than the GeIL ONE?

If it is not happy with cas 3, not happy with 2-2-2, and not happy with 3.2v+ it is plain old CH5.

Ah.....can anyone point me in the right direction as to what timings CH5 likes?

any results yet?

I would think it likes 2-3-2-5. As for the other timings, i don't know, but i guess the UTT-thread would be a good place to look. And try some of what they've got there.

i have 2x512mb of Geil Ultra Platinum PC3200 that is using Mosel Vitelic chips. Mine do not post at Cas3 (like UTT) so it is still possible he has the mosel vitelics. I have got them running right now (super pi 32M stable) at 260mhz @ 2-3-3-6 1T with 2.8v on my MSi K8N Neo4 Platinum. I got them going at 275mhz but i then had to go back to 2.5-3-3-6 1T and my CPU wasnt stable at higher clocks.

Ill try and get these into a DFI mobo and see what happens if i push voltage to 3.0v or so....

Also these sticks will do 2-3-2-5 @ 200mhz but anything higher than 200 and they need 2-3-3-6

Right, I gave them a go last night with all manner of timings. Dropped the CPU multiplier to 7x, to ensure that wasnt causing any problems. Tried the settings as follows (using Memtest86 Test 5 loops as a test)

215Mhz @ 2-3-3-6 2.7v - Yes works fine, but then thats stock speeds.
220Mhz @ 2-3-3-6 2.7v - Yes
225Mhz @ 2-3-3-6 2.7v - No. Errors.
225Mhz @ 2-4-3-6 2.7v - Yes, errors cease.
230Mhz @ 2-4-3-6 2.7v - Not at all working, Memtest wont load.
230Mhz @ 2-4-3-6 2.8v - A truckload of errors.
230Mhz @ 2-4-4-6 2.8v - Yet more errors.
230Mhz @ 2-4-4-8 2.8v - Same again. Tons of errors.
230Mhz @ 2.5-4-4-8 2.8v - Nope. Loads of Errors.
230Mhz @ 2.5-4-4-8 2.8v 2T - Same
230Mhz @ 2.5-4-4-8 2.7v 2T - A slight reduction in errors. Boots 50% of the time though.
230Mhz @ 2.5-4-4-8 2.9v 2T - Even more errors than 2.8v

So.....225Mhz @ 2-4-3-6 2.7v 1T seemed my best bet......however it was not to be. When I raised my CPU Multiplier to 8x it was fine albiet a bit slow at 1800Mhz. Raised the multipler to 9x......and ran Memtest....and its a no-go zone. Masses or errors.

So I've currently got the RAM and CPU in sync at 2150Mhz using the RAM's stock speeds and timings, which is the only way it'll co-operate with the CPU.

Any suggestions? Buy new RAM? Buy a new CPU? Buy new Both?

yep its CH-5 then...

Unless you can supply more voltage to it then that is the best you will get from it...

Oh I can put right up to 3.5v through it using my motherboard up to 3.1v and my OCZ DDR Booster for that extra 0.4v.

Makes no difference though, it just hates me raising the voltage. Memtest just come up garbled over 3.1v.

Its all good though, I've ordered this:

1Gb G.Skill FC Series PC4400 (2.5-4-4-8) Dual Channel kit

Its TCCD. :)

Totally wrong, UTT-CH boots at CAS3.

Try 2 use 2-2-2-5 at 2.6~3.0V and 215MHz or so.

215Mhz? Lol...thats its stock speeds.

Its crap ram, I wont be reccommending it to anyone.

Still, I should have G.Skill goodness by tomorow.
