Hey all,

Friends system suddenly turned off, found out it was the g'card, had a look at it and i see one of the caps is broken, i pulled it off making sure the legs remained so i can repair it.. i need help recognising this cap tho...

the cap says on top...

2 2
220
1 6V

its gold.. i take it that 220 is 200MicraF ? 1 6V is 16V.. ? help please! :D

Yea, that looks like a 220uf, 16v capacitor. If you replace it, make sure you use a low ESR type capacitor

right, wots the 22? 2.2mA? ermmmm ? i wots ESR - electro static radiation?

cheers, need to be certain thats wot the numbers stand for...

the 22 will probably be some sort if ID for the part.
ESR is the effective series resistance of the capacitor. Most 'poor' quality capacitors will have a relitively high ESR, and could fail quite quickly under the conditions they are subjected to. You need to use a good quality capacitor with a low ESR as a replacement to avoid failure of the capacitor, and provide effective voltage smothing for the voltage regulators.
