this is website has taken some pics of the board using a thermal camera, so if your thinking where to attach a extra fan or heastink to the board then here's your answer :D

Point a fan at the back of that core!!

First we look at the video card area, with several hot spots and one major area of concern. In the lower left hand corner we see a large chip labeled A. This chip is at a blazing hot temperature of 92.9C!! This is the 128 pin ITE super I/O controller (chip number 8712F-A) and is used by ITE Smart Guardian to monitor voltages, component temperatures and fan speeds. Also notice the hot spot just to the left of this chip; this is merely a reflection of the infrared light being emitted from this chip.

My questions, is it a normal temp for that chip? what overclocking gain or/and temps monitoring precision would we get if we're putting a fan on that area?

Awesome! Now I know where to point fans!

Too bad my Audigy is right over that damn hot spot in the corner of the board!

That is pretty cool. Thanks for the link!

Nice, that CPU looks hot though!

Sure its not an amalgamation of the centre of the 120mm fan and the CPU though?

Strange how cool the heatsinked mosfets are, you almost wonder if heat is being transferred to them properly.

if the back of the core was really 72.9c you'd burn your finger by touching it, or any of those other points supposedly over 50c also.

I think he should have done the "finger test" on a couple of those..

The last experiement i've seen with someone using thermal cameras was with an old Athlon board. Gotta love this stuff though - wish I had the money for even a low-end camera to use.

Thanks for the link :)

just in case anybody wanted a quick reference for the hot spots on the dfi board - here is a pic showing the hot spots...
