hey all,

i need someone to help me with my avatar please. ive spent hours in Softimage XSI 4.2 and Photoshop 7 today making a kickmule avatar for myself. im really impressed with the result and i think its pretty humurous too, BUT...

i simply cannot get the filesize to lower than the required 16k that XS imposes (even though some people gifs on here are like 88, what is up with that?). even after saving it on the lowest quality settings in photoshop it remains over, and if i take the image size any smaller the text becomes illegible, which is the heart of the image.

am i missing something? whos good at this sort of stuff, any help would be appreciated please.

cheers

save it as a jpg in photoshop, open it in paint and save it as a different filename, it will be small enough as long as you are within the length and width requirement.

Open it in photoshop...go to Modify...Image Size...lower the width and height of it and the file size will be shown to be reduced appropriately. Dont worry about dimensions...once you change the width, it'll automatically change the length to keep it the same shape ;)

Hope that helps.

disposableteen, nice trick. reduced the filesize by half, but afraid it still didnt meet the 16kb requirement. and perkam, i already said id reduced the image size as much as i could without the text becoming unreadable. is much less than the 125 x 125 pixel limit imposed by XS, but still isnt small enough :(. HEEEELP!

try compressing it in photoshop and then doing the paint trick, this way you start with a smaller files size so it may make it.

do you have M$ Office Picture Manager?
you can open the jpg there and compress it. choose compress for email for highest compression.

Just go to save for web instead of save as and you have many choices and different formats to save your image as.

When you have time, send it to me as an attachment to perkam@yahoo.com ...I'll take care of it and send it to you back np.

As long as it doesnt have any questionable content ;)

In photoshop it will tell you the size of the image as you change the quality.

Open it in Image Ready. image ready is for animations, ps is for just one frame pics.
