How do I cut a certain part of an image out?

I want to cut that guy out of the image and use it in another. I've been looking at the help files but can't find out how to do it.

Mark it up and right click, it's in the menus there.

I was told I needed the "Magic Wand" plugin but apparently it was a lot better using Photoshop, so I got Photoshop the other day.

What do you think of my signature? Bearing in mind that it's my first attempt. :)
