Which nextgen console is right for you? [Archive]

PS3 for me. I'm not a rabid fanboy or anything, but I've had a PS1 and PS2, and full-backwards compatibility is too good to pass up. There are still some PS1 games such as Jet Moto, Bushido Blade and the old Gran Turismos that I like to play now and again.

Got an extensive list of PS2 games that I'd like to keep on playing as well.

I would have to say Xbox 360. I will definitely be getting this right when it comes out. I do admit the PS3 looks impressive though. I may get it, if it seems worth it.

Xbox360 all the way for me. Cant go wrong with xbox. Plus, if I get sick of it, I'll load linux on it.

I owned PS and PS2 so I will take PS3 for this generation too, the games just looks.. like their real

But xbox360 comes 6months before ps3..

I'm going to get XBOX360 and PS3 :D. I was thinking about getting only XBOX360, but PS3's exclusive games just can't resist... Killzone 2 (I thought the ingame graphics were movies haha damn NVIDIA showed me), Tekken 6, Devil May Cry 4...I want it all!

im not really a big console fan. but if i get one it will probably be the ps3.
halo didnt impress me and i think thats probably the only reason to buy the new xbox.
but sony has so many great exclusive titles so thats what i will go with.
i havent really heard much about the new nintendo but im sure it will be cool

I also vote for PS3. But the XBOX360 sounds interesting too. The hardware of both consoes sounds more than great to me, but what matters in the end is how good games can be programmed, so lets wait and see :)

the screenshots for doom 4 on the new xbox dont look too impressive to me, seems like 9800 pro rendering, i think PC's will still be the better option.

but if i HAD to have 1 of those consoles it would be PS3 for the sheer amount of games (PSone PS2 and PS3 games) also the rumours of more powerful hardware would tempt me.

Yes the "fattys." I actually used the Controller S then switched to the Duke and I like it a lot better.

Have you seen PS3's controllers *shivers*. I would take X360 controllers over ANY control pad if they're anything like Controller S at all,, except I dont know how they did the new shoulder buttons. But whats to dislike about em'?

I wonder why they did any changes to the PS controller at all :/ In my opinion the PS2 controller is the best controller out there. Most good Logitech controllers for PC are based on the design of the PS2 controller, so it cant be that bad. All they'd have to do is to make it wireless.

PS3 no doubt over Xbox360. 2x the computational power, 2x the RAM bandwidth (the Xbox's EDRAM doesn't count as it's a cache), 3x the CPU cores, and a GPU that's about equal. Unless, Microshaft pops out a surpise bottle of Viagra, PS3 is going to be king.

The PS3 doesn't use the same conventional IBM Power PC architecture as the 360, it uses a Cell processor.

Personally, I think it all depends on what games you play, hardcore RPG or FPS gamer etc.

I'll probably end up getting the 360, and stealing my siblings consoles when I get bored lol :toast: 'tis good to have a family of gamers.

I wasn't really excited about the tech demos, since they were just tech demos. Now, I'm even less excited.

And I'm not buying this whole "Cell" thing. It's just some name Sony came up with to excite the fanboys. Remember PS2's "Emotion Engine" and how it could process Toy Story in real time? Pshhh... whatever. Sony is a lot of smoke and mirrors.

Indeed it has been, the creator of Final Fantisy is also making two games for Xbox360, which I think may be exclusives. Not sure about that though. Doesn't shake the fact that, the PS3 is more powerful. btw, you know the game "Heavenly Sword" well one of the developers has a big convo going at Beyond3D in their Console section, where he talks about how powerful the PS3 lol! A real perspective on what a beast the thing is!

yeah definatly a PS3....9 cores compared to 6 and most of the games that are coming out with the Xbox will only utilize 1-2 cores....as for the PS3 im hoping that they will get full utilization of all cores on release because they have a longer time to develop...xbox is rushing the process too much

The Xbox has 3 or 4 games that interest me, the PS2 has around 50, the gamecube around 15. I'll probably start with a PS3, then buy a GC2, then a Xbox360. I don't care about any of the specs of them, I only program on portable devices the games are the only thing that matter to me. I can't just leave one of them behind though because I know at one point there will be a console exclusive game for each one of them that I "have" to play.

I like the PS2 especially because the mod chip I installed allows me to run games off of a HD I installed into it so I never need to find CDs or wait for loading. Whichever console has a function like that (Be it though modding or stock) will probably become my favorite. I know the Xbox now has a mod chip that also lets you run stuff off of the HD, but it's number of exclusive games doesn't make me care so much and I just get any cross platform game in PS2 format so I can use the HD.

The PSP is the best fit for me right now (Dad + baby that won't sleep anywhere but the car) and has completely sold me on the idea of portable gaming. My next console will also be a handheld.

Legend of Zelda series has me hooked...but nintendo isnt stupid.

By having the newest addition to the zelda franchise come in along with the revolution launch (they delayed it from nov 05 to april 06), I'll be picking up the x360 and the zelda game for the gamecube i already have.

Which will allow me to get the revolution with the next zelda game comes out on it later on in 2k7 or 2k8.

I'm not really into consoles... except my PSP. Anytime I need a console fix or some portable gaming I'll bust out the PSP.

Anytime I want a REAL game I'll boot up my PC.
