Man.. Im gonna have to get HDTV now. The graphics have gone far beyond what normal TV's can display in such beauty. Not only that.. But I expect this thing to be expensive as hell since the Reality Synthesizer (The GPU made by Nvidia, of course) is quoted as being better than two 6800 Ultra's in a Gamespot Article. And that Two Teraflops.. Is such power truly necessary..? Some of these blasted Screenshots look just.. Too.. Damn..

Its crazy how consoles these days are soo powerful... 3.2GHZ processor speed and a videocard that runs almost 2x of a GeForce 6800. Thats amazing for $299+.

I dont know, but the specs shown on the Xbox 360 and PS3 look like BS to me
How are they going to crunch that much performance in $300-$400 when only the r520 on the Xbox360 would cost $500.

koei

Multi-threading with the XDRAM bandwith. PC game now a days are being bottlenecked by CPU performance. If you look at most benchmarks done, it is often explained. The processing power PS3 or XBOX360 has may seem unnecessary, but really when we get down to it, why wouldn't people like it to be the fastest as it can be? I sure as hell wouldn't mind real time CG rendering for all games.

Money isn't all made with the console itself. Like printers and cartridges, selling the console is just ensuring they get a steady flow of profit via the games made for its platform.

...k so my arm still hurts pretty bad but I'm awake...

So after seeing a few shots of it, I've made my decision, I'm going Xbox 360. Dont care what the specs are, PS3 looks more like a pc than the X360 does and manages to look dorky at the same time.

I mean, look at the controller for god sakes, ...

I dont think its bad, just first impression really. Plus, what it really matters is what's under it and what game selection it has. Almost all the titles announed with PS3 are games I love.

wow just wow.. nice specs but once again if a 6800GT cost around 300 alone for the card.. and something that is rated 2x the prefomrnace of a 6800gt how will they exactly keep the cost down where they won't lose atleast 500 per a system?

I'm not going to get some super-expensive HDTV, I'll just hook it up to my computer monitor. Lots cheaper. Still that system is kick-ass, the POWER. PS3 is truely an XtremeSystem, lol! I'm still reeling from watching those videos, my goodness! Still that controller really bothers me, the way it must vibrate, and it's long thick handles. It looks like a double-sided dil... Well, at least it'll help grow the female gaming market!

koei

Hehe, the controller does look a little odd, but I am sure it is well made ergonomically. I can't imagine them releasing lousy controller when they have such horsepower under the console. Not to mention, up to 7 wireless controllers!! No more wires and if you need to goto a friend's house, just bring your controller with you~

From the Sony conference, it seems to suggest that the RSX GPU is actually 2 cores running in some sort of SLI.

trakslacker
05-16-2005, 10:24 PM
^ no, it doesnt.

The picture posted above clearly shows that the NVidia RSX is a single core with over 300 mil. transistors. What they are saying is that the RSX core they have developed is over than 2x as powerful as two 6800 Ultras in SLI mode in a conventional PC.

I dunno about the next gen consoles. I am gonna wait until they are out for a few months before I rush into buying a 350$ dollar console.

I made that mistake lastime and I bought a ps2 before I found out the sexbox was way better.

BTW do all sections raise post count?

it doesnt work like that, when the xbox and ps2 came out they lost money on every console they sold, but made it back on the games, as technology progressed and they bought more parts in bulk it became cheaper for them to produce

PS3 all the way ... !
but why did they jsut release the silver PS-TWO (slim version) when this is coming in under a year

so is the PS3 better than the XBOX 360 hardware wise? ...or not.

In terms of raw processing power, yes. In fact the PS3 claims to be able to double the number of Floating point ops/sec calculated by the entire system from 1TFLOP to 2, which is a *HUGE* increase. Remember though, that this is all just theoretical performance and such. The real trick is going to be which console gets better programmed games, which is yet to be seen.

The PS3 def. has the potential on paper, but the Cell architecture might make it fairly difficult to program well.

i think PS3 will have more games than the XBOX 360 ...PS always has had more than XBOX. PS3 is more popular than the XBOX (outside the US) for some reason everyone in the US choses the XBOX over PS :stick:
only thing PS3 fails in is looks ...dang its ugly (compared to that beutiful new xbox 360). not to mention the controller ...

I don't think the PS3 will have more games. The Xbox 360 is coming out in November and the PS3 Spring 2006.

This may be interesting too

Having led the worldwide console gaming market for the last decade, Sony is counting on the new machine to dominate in all aspects of networked home entertainment -- games, movies, music and more.

"PS3 truly is the system to be placed in the center of living rooms in homes around the world," Ken Kutaragi, the head of Sony's game unit, said at a press event ahead of the start of the E3 annual industry trade show.

Kutaragi, known as "the father of the PlayStation," beamed as he stood next to a display of the curved PS3 offered in three colors -- black, silver and white -- and a boomerang-shaped game controller.

Sony said the PS3 would have twice the processing speed of the Xbox 360, the console Microsoft is expected to release in November with up to 40 software titles.

"Sony's console looked like a next-generation game machine and in comparison to the graphics of the PS3, Microsoft's looked like Xbox 1.5," said Takashi Oya, analyst at Deutsche Bank.

ps3 already has like 4 or 5 games made for it, develpers are just waiting for the thing to come out, and the controler will prolly be fixed, remember the original xbox controler, i had prolems fitting it in my room, but then they fixed it about 6 months later, so i expect to see improvements on that, just as teh xbox had to do, plust ya, lol ps3 will have 2x the power of xbox 360, and it might actually come out end of 05 :)

Depends on how big your hands are. For people with small hands the original one can feel a wee-bit awkward compared to any other console controller.

Turok

I still dont get how they can crunch so much power and make it a $300 system. When the Xbox came out, PCs where still superior in processing performance, but they put the cell processor like 3x faster than the FX-55, and the FX-55 only is about $800. They also plan to use a GPU about 2x faster than the best of today

*sony fixes controller*
*ppl rejoince*
*xbox 360 suffers even more cuz its only got half the power of ps3*

my hand is massive, im 6'2" and thumb to pinkie is 9.5 inches, but i just dun like big ass controllers, but none the less lol games alredy made for ps3

and i believe the ps3 and xbox360 are gonna reach $500+ mostlikley
i remember the original plans for teh psX (ps2 with new gfx core and dvd burner and wutnot (basically the ps3)) was supposedly going to be like 700-800 bux

On various sites they have been saying the X360 will cost $299 for just the system w/ controller, cables and all the stuff like that.

Then the one with a HDD and some extra stuff will be $360. I don't know if this are the official specs, but this is what has been floating around the net lately.
