Has anyone managed to get his/her x800xt vid card to run the resolution at 1366x768 with HDTV?

Is this a driver issue or hardware limit? I heard that the nvidia 6800series can run at that res no prob. What can be done to the ati card? drivers?

i use cat4.9 btw.

It DEFINATELY IS a problem with the 6800series. You can not disable DDC within windows (I found a workaround for linux but I could not get the timings right) with NVIDIA drivers. ATI will let you disable DDC within windows. I've not figured out how to create a custom resolution with ati try yet. I really don't want to resort to powerstrip :) Its a little bit of both. Most likely your EDID/DDC ID is limited to 1280x768 like mine. You can get past it but you need to know the timings and absolutely have to disable DDC.

hmm interesting.

i really want to run it at 1366x768.. because that will enable my screen to run at 1:1 ratio square pixels giving best PQ and since it is its native res.. i guess like you've said it's matter of timing.. :( thanx for the help Eric..

weird - 1360x768 (not 1366x768) is available with the 71.84ForceWare

no idea about ATI cards though, sorry =/

just out of interest, why is HDTV such a weird resolution? (1366/8=170.75?!?!?!?!)

no it's ok.. thanx for the input.. it all helps. :)

funny thing i have found out is that.... i've tried two different vga cables. One is some cheap quality regular vga cable. The other one i just bought is an expensive high quality SVGA cable and i get interesting results..... the resolution selection changes  The cheap cable gives me 1366x806. The high quality svga cable gives me 1280x768. The svga cables gives me much better picture quality though.

overall, i'm very happy with my hdtv.. the PQ is so clean, crisp, and bright. having awesome experience in gaming =) it's just that it would be even cooler if i could get that sweet'ol 1366x768. :)

1:1 with small bars on each side is better than distored full screen :) My HDTV/Monitor has an option to run 1:1.

I think its because the aspect ratio is the same as 1280x720. Its more compatible having 768 lines of resolution. That way 1024x768 fits perfectly.

Got it.. Tried a Cat4.9 and now i get to use 1360x768. That's more like it. :)

Was the resolution there by default or did you have to add it somehow?

it's probably the resolution of his PLASMA / Projector. I remember reading something about a driver program called Powerstrip - not sure who and where with which you can put in any resolution you want - might be worth while googling for that

Oops sorry I meant to type "Cat5.3", not4.9. :/

Yes, that res was already there for me to choose. :) Cat4.9 didn't give me that choice but the cat5.3 does. :)

yes - 768 is fine (768/8=96)

but

why 1366? (1366/8=170.75) ie, not an integer

most (if not all?) video codecs use a matrix 8x8 (sometimes 16x16 for older codecs) to compress, so that would leave alot of noise in the stream somewhere?

anywhoo, glad you sorted your problem =]

Because its 16:9 and 1280x768 would be 16:10. The main 16:9 resolution is 1280x720 but you can't run 1024x768 on that. I'm still not running 13xx x 768  Maybe his EDID/DDC info is for 1366x768 while mine is 1280x768.

Why not try running a native HDTV res like 720p or 1080i? I was able to use powerstrip to get my 9600pro to do 720p without a problem, but I'm using a DVI cable not a VGA one.

Its what I'm using for my monitor. At 1280x768 I lose 2" viewable area. Forget about using any type of interlaced resolution for a PC!

use powerstrip, make yourself a custom resolution.
thats what I use to do for my old HDTV.

Any idea where to disable DDC for ATI now? I know Nvidia does not have that option. Played with it for months. Without disabling DDC even powerstrip resolutions are virtual over 1280x768 (screen scrolls with the mouse at the edge of the screen).

powerstrip is a nice little program, u can oc ur vid card and whatnot with it, mess with different color types, resolution, etc.
