I was bored today so I figured I'd remove the heat spreader from my 5900xt and everything went smothly enough. I slipped the knife in the space between the IHS and the core and seperated the two and the thing came of after a bit of work. I reaplied the thermal paste and put the waterblock back on and booted up. Now I get >1/4 the frames in all of my games. I used to get 83.1fps in car chase high but now I only get 26.8fps. Where did I go wrong? Did I ruin the card? any help would be GREATLY appreciated as this is my main rig (the other being a 500mhz athlon) and I dont have much to fall back on. thanks.

WOW, I feel like the single biggest n00b ever right now. After spending all day unistalling and reinstalling drivers, flashing bioses, and trying to solve this strang problem I relised I had forgoten to plug the molex connector into the card. I'm actually really relived that I didnt srew my card over but how stupid could I be. I blame ADD. Oh well, at least it's fixed.

Heh, I've had that happen too many times on my 6800 ultra, I'd be like how come I'm only getting like 20 FPS in doom 3 at 640x480 lol. Happens to the best of us, even if you triple check it :-P

i thought with the 6800 series and the X8xx series they needed the molex to boot, (with the exception of some X800XLs, X800s and 6800s) how could you have gotten into windows without it in, when i dont plug mine in (x800 pro) i get a black screen saying that the power connector isnt in right.

Well theres a weird combo I forget which one but you can still get into windows or if the molex is plugged in halfway (I've had clutter) and falls out while in windows itll default to a "low power mode"

^^^Also interested in temps.

When my 6800 isn't plugged in, its built-in speaker starts beeping so loud my parents shout at me from the basement, two floors down. Damn PNY! :nono:

man thats pretty funny. just forgot to plug the molex in. i guess thats why ATI made it so that it wont turn on otherwise.

This was at a party at night with my pc as the music centre... and it kinda helps when the ambient temp is around 6 degrees... Everything @ stock :)

So no, not 1.8vgpu and 600mhz

But without voltage mods (and stock BIOS, as in 1.4vgpu) i can hit 548mhz stable :D

is 600mhz core really an acheivement? i used to run that as my 24/7 speed, i used to bench with close to 700mhz. i think cooling was holding me back though as it would get artifacts and more juice would just give more.

here is a very old link, when i had an axp and bh-5, note the drivers are very old and so is the 3dmark version. but still at 684mhz. if this is any kind of acheivement let me know!

I think it is an acheivement for a 5900xt, maybe not a 5950U though.
