Welcome to XS! You're not going to find too many results of Prime......yet. Seems as if everybody's still trying to sort everything out since receiving their cpu's recently. Are you trying to find which cpu would be the best "band for the buck"? Or are you just simply curious what the highest stable OC reached so far for a revE cpu?

s7e9h3n: Yeah I'm trying to get the most out of my money I'm still using AMD thunderbird 901Mhz. I was just wondering if I just skip single core 64 chips and go straight to X2 chips they seem to OC well and (4800)2.7 on air stock cooling. Thats pretty good. I have been reading some benchmarks too. also my other options is get a cheap 64 3000 and upgrade X2 later.

Discipl3:OK

I'm sure you have already checked out the Venice and San Diego OC threads. There are a few Prime runs here and there but as mentioned earlier, you won't find too many as of yet. A lot of our forum members are not too concerned with Prime-stability, but are rather content with being able to complete a 3DMark or SuperPi 1M run. I do understand your concerns, though, as I am also a stickler for 24/7 stability.

At any rate, you can't go wrong with either core. Anything would be a significant upgrade for you at this point considering the rather classic CPU you are running. ;)

And welcome to XtremeSystems. :toast:

Well, first off, you'll may get the most outta your money with the x2 cpu's, but it's gonna take a lot of money to get one ;) . Don't make a decision after seeing just one cpu tested. You could be setting yourself up for a big let-down. I remember the days of the t-bird :D Those were some fast (and hot) cpu's! I think you'll be happy with these new rev E cpu's though. The venices are generally better oc'er than the old winnies and seem to be putting out less heat. I know it's not prime, but here's what I did with a 3800+ Venice on stock hsf in a review I wrote a couple of months ago:

Spi16m stable @ 2800. This cpu could also run spi1m @ 3.3G on single phase and it hit 3.8G on cascade :D
Personally, I think the "value" cpu to get right now would probably be a 3200+ Venice ( I actually have one on the way while my fx55 is on RMA). They're showing some decent results and can be found for right around ~$200.

I agree. I don't think Prime95 is worth the wait time for stability, although if you have the time then by all means try it out. But for me, running 3dmarks and SuperPi is enough stability, and lately, I've been finding out that erroring in Prime does not always correlate to instability. My San Diego couldn't even pass first test at 2.4 Ghz in Prime, but I could pass SuperPi 32m, run a day of looping 3dMark01 and 05, and play CS SOurce and NBA Live 2005 for hours without a glitch.

conrad.maranan: yeah i usually keep my computer on 24/7 the whole year

s7e9h3n:nice OC, yeah my single core choices were 3200 and 3700. opps did i put 3000

quicksilverXP: your SD can't prime at 2.4 I though venices can prime at under 2.7 lol trying to based OC potential on Prime

my 3700+ sd is primeing fine at 2.86 (11x260) whih is quite nice as the memory starts to top out at 260 unless i give it more than 3.5v which might not be the best for 24/7 use on d2ol

My SD 3700+ 0515SPMW is prime stable (5 hrs haven't tried further yet) at 2800mhz (280x10) 1.43v GSkill LE 2.5-3-3-7 on the DFI with 414-1 bios.....on water.

Nice low voltage right :) must be good for a fair bit further with a volt jolt? wel l so far :slapass:

So far it doesn't like much further with regards to prime even with 1.6v+ but i think it's good to 2900/2950 for superpi/3dmark runs .....i'm still playing with multipliers etc ....i am hoping this 414-1 bios will help me with the dividers as the 310 i used before didn't seem to like anything but 10

One thing is for sure she is a helluva lot more stable than my winchester ever was and faster :woot:

There is one thing I personally hate:

When a Program crashes / throwing stupid errors on me.
If that happens I get mad, I use Prime 95 for a min, of 12hrs, and I consider an overclock as stable if prime 95 runs 24hrs or at least 12hrs two times. I just can´t wait for postings like:

"My PC freezes, Setup didn´t change" "My CPU runs too hot" "Stable for 5 months, now freezes"

Just because Summer is comming. Everything else than Prime (for CPU testing) is rubbish. Max Prime with my Wini is 2.7 Ghz. Max SuperPi 32M is 2.85 Ghz. Until now i can only see a small benefit for the Venice.

Highest 12hr Prime95 OC'ed speed:

My 3700 San Diego: 2.78Ghz @1.66v
My brother's 3200 Venice: 2.75Ghz @1.71v

By the way, both are air-cooled.

I guessing its still not perfect but OCCT ( - USE THE SEARCH KEY :D (couldn't resist - sorry)) seems to pick up stuff a lot faster for me. Trick is to go in options and set to about 890-910 mem usage. This pgm is constantly loading and unloading memory as well as computing stuff. I use the torture test and it has to run @ least an hr b4 I call it usable (I run D2oL 24/7). For further utility, if you can get it running for @ least 6-8 hrs, can prolly drop your vcore a bit. It allowed me to drop my vcore for my winnie from 1.55->1.49 for 9x300 after beating on it over weekends w/ this (D2oLed the rest).

Hope this info is useful.
