View Full Version : Crystal orb worth it?

Is it worth it to replace the passive heatsink on an A7V333 with a 7v crystal orb?
The passive cooler seems to have more area to work with, but the crystal orb has a bit more airflow, which seems nice. I refuse to run it at 12v, though. It was the loudest thing in my case, by far.
Is it worth switching it?
I don't like the ORB coolers simple because I think they have a terrbile performance:noise ratio, but there's nothing wrong w/ replacing a passive cooler w/ 1 if its not doing the job.

Lapp the bottom of it good it should work fine, there was a thread on the board somewhere that one of the guys lapped a golden orb and dropped 15C on a CPU

Alright, thanks guys. I think at 7V it's not TOO irritating, so I'll probably put it on. If nothing else, it's prettier.

Here goes my first post:
I spent some time going between a Crystal Orb, the stock cooler, and an older, beefy copper hsf with a 6 cm fan, trying to quantify the performance increase.
On my 7VAXP, the margain is negligible.

Schitzo, you can quiet the crystal orb down a little more by removing that god awful fan grill.
i really don't know why Tt insists on adding that worthless little thing.

i've actually found that it makes a decent throwing star, but a throwing star doesn't make my GF3 run any cooler.
