hi there :)

im use 2x36 raptors in raid 0 that working on my silicon image sil 3114 chip (on board in the dfi sli-rd)

the sil 3114 support raid 5, so im want to add 1 more raptor and work at raid 5.

it will be a big performance difference ?

thanks in advance

I would stay away from the Si3114 RAID 5 driver. From all reports the software is immature. One review said that everytime the Java GUI crashed it destroyed the array. Another person that tried found that they couldn't get it to work (bios issue IIRC). Also I not sure you can expand the array once it's created.

I went with straight RAID5 via software as my transfer rate doesn't need to be that high and it's connected to a server.
I use Linux 2.6.11-9 with EVMS 2.5.2. I'm using 4x200Gb Maxtor DiamondMax10 drives atm but I have two full 200Gb Maxtors that will be migrated over - the result being 6x200Gb RAID5.
