View Full Version : Fastest 2GB possible?

Planning a build for the coming month or two. I'm planning on getting as much performance as possible from a Toledo but I need 2GB. I'm assuming that Toledo's memcontroller is the same as SD's and Venice's, unable to run 4xDS in DDR400 1T.

So, my question is, should I get 4x UTT and OC the crap out of it to make up for the 2T or should I get 2x1GB OCZ/Ballistix (OCZ: 2-3-2-5 PC3200, Ballistix: 3-4-4-8 PC4000)? Does anybody know if the OCZ or Ballistix modules do significantly better with more voltage (will be usind DFI NF4 board) or are those timings as good as it will get with 2x1GB?

Money isn't a huge issue, but the future possible expandibility of the 2x1GB is promising.

All thoughts appreciated. :)

well, 2x1gb is gonna save you some ram slots, lol, but it is known that the 1gb sticks OC less than the 512mb sticks. depends on how much OCing your going to be doing.

I wouldn't hold your breath for that CPU in 1-2 months unless you have some good connections...

Thanks for the input ferrari and soulburner...the free ram slots might be important later if AMD ever releases a memcontroller that can do 4xDS at 1T and I ever need 4GB (doubtful in the lifetime of this build, but possible). As for the CPU, I can't really get all the parts until later anyway as I can't afford it all at once, so this will be a piecewise build--if this takes two months, then it does.

Anyway, I thought about it more and I guess there really isn't a way to know unless someone has experience with both. I plan on OCing as much as possible on water and I can run a divider if HTT goes higher than what the RAM can do, so I'm not worried about maxing out my RAM before my CPU. My concern is what's better....2T with 2-2-2-5 at 260ish, 1T with 3-4-4-8 at 260ish or 1T with 2-3-2-5 at 210ish?

Also, would having four sticks stress the MOSFETs on the DFI more when I go into >3.3V mode? That might be an issue. As much as I want great benchmarks, this also needs to be a computer that rocks the rest of the time without killing any parts.

I'll let you know in a few days, I have 4x512 XP4000 REDLINE coming for my DFI + San Diego setup.

My 2x1gb PDP Patriot memory can't go past 240 3-3-3-7.

So Soulburner....any updates on how 4x512 is doing with a San Diego?

Starting to think about 4x512 again, but with high clocked TCCD....just don't think it's wise to run a buncha volts into 4x512 for heat reasons.

Vapor, he reported some of his results so far in this thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=61037&page=17&pp=25
