I've just got back into gaming & overclocking & built a new rig (see sig below). I'm currently using Geil Value DDR400 1024 ram. I still think this is good value stuff, although I have been told that due to a number of reasons, such as the timing. This stuff is no good for overclocking. So with this in mind, I'm looking for something that won't be the bottle neck in my system. I also need something that falls into my budget of £150 ($300), but with this in mind I will look at 2nd hand stuff.

I know the basics about ram & I've tried to get a grasp of the whole timing thing, although I don't know how best to use this to get the optimal result.

Hey mate, OcUK do corsair TCCD for under £150, that would suit your setup nicely.

Either the:

Corsair 1GB DDR XMS4400 TwinX

or

Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200XL Platinum TwinX

Would be great.

Well the OcUk are great & most of my new kit comes from there. The biggest issue, is what to pick. There are 3 or 4 types on their list that seemt o have slightly different spec, but I'm not sure what to go for.

Why not try some of the twinmoss? Either the ch-5 or bh-5. With the dfi you have the volts to give it. Should be able to run tighter timings than the tccd.

Also true, but the TwinMOS BH-5 seems a little hit and miss from my results and those of a few others I know have picked it up. The CH-5 TwinMOS is the better bet I reckon. I sold my Gskill for some TwinMOS BH5 but have gone back to GSkill now, should be arriving wednesday.

TCCD is great though, especially with a 3800 (Venice?) you know you're going to hit some high HTT.

I've found a few around, see below. These are all 2nd hand off ebay. Some I can't tell the difference on some, so I'm abit lost.

Corsair TwinX 1024 3200LL Pro
TWINX1024-4400C25
Corsair TWINX1024-3200XL
Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200XL Platinum TwinX

I know that you mentioned that TwinMos was abit hit & miss, but I've found this @ £48 new !

TwinMOS Speed Premium PC3500 512MB CL2.5 Winbond BH-5, 32*8/16chip, 433mhz, 184-P

lol guess what. The reason why I ask is due to a review written on the sellers site...............guess who wrote the review mistadave!

Come clean what do you really think :D

Looking at your buy date & that you have just got some Gskill, it doesn't look good.

P.s Was this dual or single channel?

I've been looking around & fancy going for 1 Gb (2 x 512 Mb) Corsair TwinX-XL, DDR, PC3200XLPT, Cas 2 @ £139. Reading around the timings at stock are great, but if I want to push the FSB up, these will go as far as 500fsb, with looser timings.

Good or bad idea

Yeah its TCCD based so should clock further than 250, 275-300 is where most tops out, and it will do 2-2-2-5 at 200FSB.

thanks for that, I've just bought it & sold my Geil stuff for £50.

Don't know how far I can push my 3800+, but I dont think the RAM will be the bottle neck now at least.

I'll be happy with 2.6, should as it's all water cooled now.

Any results yet? I'm looking at corsair TCCD from OCUK to, several around the forums seem to think that its no good, without really explaining why
-> "Its not gskill or OCZ so it cant be good" sort of comments.

This may well be the case, but no post I've read has given me enough evidence to support this.

I'm torn between XMS4400 and XMS3200XL. The latter is 'flagship' and I guess has been released more recently, so has a chance of having later dating TCCD on it, but I've no idea whether the stuff from OCUK is rev1.1 or 1.2 (the latter using a brainpower pcb)........ .....I hate being torn.

OcUKers have been getting some good results with the PC4400 so I'd go for that. Also I don't think the v1.1 or v1.2 uses the BP PCB, but I could be wrong, ask ricco over at OcUK.

Is he a member here? because the OCUK forums have suspended registration for some reason and I dont have an account. One of the TCCD lists says that xms3200CL rev1.2 uses BP PCB.

Also found some patriot TCCD for the same price.....arg, three kinds of TCCD all for £130.......

No I don't think he is, I haven't seen him around anyway. I seem to remember he linked me to corsairs website which said even v1.2 uses a corsair PCB.

Minstadave. Just read a review that shows clearly that rev1.2 XMS3200XL uses a brainpower & corsair collaboration pcb, and it uses latest production TCCD...... :( and I've already ordered OCZ 3200 Plat EL....

Sorry to double post but minstadave, would you do me a massive favour? Could you ask in the OCUK forums if they are 1.1 or 1.2 for me, like I've said, they have disabled registration. I'l PM you as well.

hi I'vew got version 1.2 doing fine at 225 fsb with 2-3-3-6. I'm sure it can do alot more, I just need to work out how to do it. It's not the ram holding me back but other components.

I haven't got my OcUK password at the moment, had someone else change it as I've got exams on and need to work. Last time I was on people were getting v1.2s though.

Drop to CAS 2.5, you're not going to get far at CAS2. Drop your HTT multi to 4, volts to 2.8/2.9 and you'll be pushing 275 ish with average modules.

2.5-4-4-7 will see 290ish.
