NEC SAID it will supply embedded DRAM to be used in the Xbox 360, to speed up anti-aliasing calculations.

The firm said its eDRAM macros would be a "key piece" of the console's graphics subsystem.

The memory will be used by the the video processor, developed by ATI, in much the same way as cache RAM is used by a processor. By using a high-speed storage area as a frame buffer, the R500 in the Xbox 360 will be able to perform anti-aliasing at 1280x720 with almost no impact on frame-rate, apparently.

sounds good, by the time they release this console, a PC will be able to do the same and more.

Wonder if thats going to migrate to PC video cards.

Whatever the next Xbox has in terms of video and CPU power, the graphics should see a good boost assuming the game developers utilize the technology. What I have a question about is about the games that are going to launch with the next Xbox, since the technology is being tossed around so much, how can the dev team make up a workable game?

I haven't done much research yet, but it seems to me that all three new consoles, XBOX 360, whatever the Nintendo ones is called, and the PS3 all have about the same specs.

 There is already very little performance impact using AA at 1280x720.

It's called the Nintendo Revolution and they don't have about the same specs.

Kooldrew's right the specs are extremly different

It's just memory for same plain old all purpose texture buffer... whatever they want to call it now. On-die cache would [have to (edit)] be SRAM... a thing constructed primarily of latches.

Well, there is some cache in the GPU's... that you'd consider similar to L1/L2. No instruction cache though, not even in the new R520 architecture.
