hey guys, i wanted to get my old comp folding but i dont have enough slots on my router to connect it. so i was wondering if i could just get it internet through my mobo. it has 2 ethernet ports, so i was wondering if one could hold the main connection to the router and the otherone could link the other computer to the internet through my comp. any help will be appriciated.

Sure you can. You'll need to configure the second, older box to use the new box as a gateway and you'll need to have the newer box share it's connection (if you're in Windows).

get a crossover cable. go from your PC to the folding machine.

then, go into your PC's network connections. highlight both network cards and hit "bridge" wait ~30 seconds and you just turned your PC into a switch. :)

best bet would be to pick up a 4/5/8 port switch and 2 lan cables. then just uplink it to the router and move your PCs to the new switch. that removes any dependancy on your PC.

when you hooked up the crossover lan cable between the two computers, did you get a link-light?

if dhcp is enabled on your router (usually is,) your client is dhcp-enabled, and the interfaces are bridged, you should get an address and be able to get online.
