Is there any benefit to aluminium vs. steel other than the fact it is probably lighter? Are there cooling benefits? I'm interested in knowing because there is a certain case that comes in both aluminium and regular old steel style flavor, but the aluminium costs $20 more and I am pondering is it worth the extra money.

No benefits other than weight and it being easier to cut. Personally, I prefer steel.

it would be lighter.

technically aluminum conducts heat better than steel, but if you're case is conducting that much heat you've got some major airflow problems.

Yup. Aluminum is a better conductor, but there's no practical benefits with all that open air space between your components and the walls of the case. I perfer steel also.

Thanks for answers, you may have just saved me $20 :).

To be honest, I preffer steel cases because aluminum ones just seem so fragile. Aluminum might be lighter, it conducts heat better but it also bends more easily than steel.
There's nothing better than the Antec's PerformancePlus 1080AMG case, IMO.
