Hey all,

My IC7-G went to the big hardware scrapyard in the sky last night, so I'm sitting here with a 3.2 pressy, and no mobo to use it with.

Whats the best mobo for s478 that I can get to replace it with?

Looking for high vdimm, stability and so on.

Opinions?

Thanks in advance.

i bought the DFI lanparty pro 875b, this is a good stable board and with some heatsinks on the VRMs and the mosfets it can take you to very high clocks. (even without them it will go decently high but nothing incredible) The Vdimm only goes to 2.9 but you can get a booster to take care of that.

Another IC7-G! My favorite mobo ever was my old IC7-G MAXII.

does it have to be 875?, the AI7 (865) has high vdimm without mods (3+v I think)

I retired my MAX3 to server/folding duty and went with a p4c800-e/dlx. Great board and no q/c issues -- unlike my five ABIT boards.

I've gone through 5 of them in 1.5 years, 4 of them the AGP died for no reason. 1 I killed I'll admit it, my fault. But 4 other die w/o reason, and ABIT won't return my messages about it WFT?

P4C800-E, vmod is easy and gives ya 3.2v.........very solid stable mb, OC's very well

Well, Im not going to say it cannot be 865, back when I got my IC7-G it was either that, or the Asus p4c800, as the king for s478 northwoods. Now though, I have a 3.2E which was going at 4.1 with my IC7. I believe that the power circuitry was what failed, maybe it finally couldnt take the prescott load (I know my pcp&c 510 sli certainly could).

Point being, I have a gig of ocz 3700 EB, and IC7-G only did 2.8vdimm ( and I feel it drooped a bit at that)

It comes down to: I could run at 258ish fsb (or 275 as I got an sl7b8 with the 14 multi) and at 258 fsb my poor 3700 EB would not go over 248 error free at 2.8 volts. So IC7's cant track vtt, so no booster. Hipro's Maximizer is not out yet, so I was looking for 3ish volts vdimm without modding. (Plan to get a maximizer when they are released)

So what board is proven to be stable at 280 fsb (14 multi) and have high vdimm for 1:1 ram at a 16 multi (gskill tccd is nice but a to expensive for me atm, and ocz VX, well the V means volts and :p: )

as some already said, you can't go wrong with a P4C800-E, I have one and it's my favorite for Intel

On topic; I have tried the Asus Deluxe board and the IC7-g and max3. And I could get the highest clock with my IC7-g with my 3.2E. (I`m no v modd person.)

Off topic, what vcore where u running at when your mobo died? Did u sink your mosfets?

You CAN go wrong with P4C800's. They are the most fragile things I have ever seen. I have owned/borrowed/stole a few in the past. One of em died without warning, for no reason. And another, the USB ports died. Wow, what a great board :o

1.4325 vcore (or whatever that closest to 1.43 is :p: ) Had it there for a month or so. No problems. I did not have the mosfets sinked, I actually had them insulated as I was using my homemade chiller for -30ish temps. PWM temp sensor was reading 10 - 20 C so I was not concerned... maybe I should have been :(

Fragile is never good, especially when insulating and custom heatsinking various parts of it.

I was lookign at the dfi pro875...... 2.9vdimm looks good, or is it inferior to the p4c800-e ?

Well I went for the P4C800 - E deluxe

It tracks VTT (a big plus)
Has been proven time and time again to be a good stable board to OC with

and...

Guaranteed to work with the asus mobile adapter

Dothan :slobber: of course thats a future option, not scrapping my pressy for one just yet ;)

if u dont want to do mods ic7-g or pro 875b would be best

the p4c800 has humongous droops, probably the worse

MAX 3 has considerably lower amps than the other IC-7s, so not as good for stable overclocks, IMO.

another vote for the ic7 and the ic7-g both boards were the best ocing boards i ever used. had a 3.2E ES at 4500mhz and coulda gone higher had my mach1 got colder....

good luck with your asus man those are sweet boards also once you get the volt mod and droop mods done...

Only thing I can say about that is that the Vcore droop on my p4c800-e/dlx is far less than it ever was on the IC7-G or MAX3. Dunno if I got lucky or what, but I was amazed.

Got the board running yesterday,

All seems good, very nice board so far. I have everything at stock as I want to make sure its running good before I start OCing and what not.

Thanks for the input. So far no real droop, but stock Vcore is not a good test for that.

why don't you jsut RMA it? Abit has a lifetime warranty. When my MAX3 died a week ago I bought the DFI LP Pro875 Rev. B, its currently being Vmoded to workaround the 1.55V OVP limit. Though I do have a new MAX3 on its way to me from Abit.

note: The Dfi is awesome, i like it alot more than the MAX3, though it seems the ethernet port is not locked during OCing so i got a PCI gigabit card.

what board did you buy?

Asus P4C800 - E dlx

And why don't I rma the abit?

Well thats still a possiblility, but The entire back of the board is covered with sealstring and neoprene, the front top half is covered in conformal coating, neoprene and dieletric grease. My northbridge heat sink fell off a while back (known abit problem) so I no use a swiftech chipset cooler.....

Not even sure where the original chipset fan is. So I was willing to spend a few bucks to not clean the board up and wait multiple weeks to get it RMA'ed

But maybe I will still do so in the future, spare boards never hurt :)

I prefer IC7 for overclocking and P4x800 has more/better features like CT-479, Abit has no problems with cpu voltage droop like Asus, but has problems with mem droop, and it isnt so easy to mod!

ABIT IC7-G
ASUS P4C800 series
ASUS P4P800-SE

^^the ones to choose from. 99.9% likely to hit FSB300 on air

i had a ic7-g max3 and had nothing but trouble with it and every board I got back from RMA

my p4p800e and p4c800's were a joy

i had an MSI NEO FIS2R and it was awesome, it was one of the last MSI boards i was happy with. they are hard to find though and still get a pretty penny on eGay
