Could someone please post a link to a guide for voltmodding the P4 by using the pin-trick, something about connecting 4 pins on the cpu?? I would like to give this 3.06 more than 1.75v if at all possible

thanks for the help

Hey CCC! Nice to see ya at Xtreme! :)

Here's (http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/Intel/Northwoodmod/) what you're looking for.

Thank You

Now my question is if i connect all 4 pins now my default voltage is 1.85v, what exactly does that mean?? Can i still set my cpu to 1.55v?? Also is 1.85v too much for watercooling?? At 1.75v im getting about 40C idle and 45C full load

Actually if you connect the four pins like they show in VR-Zone, you're only setting the voltage to 1.825V.

To answer your question yes, the voltage will default to whatever you set it to but no I don't believe you can lower your voltage to 1.55V.

Edit: I'm not sure to be honest... Your temps should be ok I would think but you'd best try it out. When I did the pin mod, I used a wire so it's easy to remove.

Intel's datasheets for P4 northwood (0.13u) limits up to 1.75V for maximum Vcore and 69C for maximum temperatures before cpu "thortling" kick-in. I personally use 1.70V as my default voltage (because easier to paint : the first two pins), and increase the Vcore afterwards through BIOS.

go here: http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/Intel/Northwoodmod/

see picture for 1.85V paint tricks:

so my question still stands, if i set my default voltage to 1.85v can i still set the vcore to 1.55v if i want to???? And if not what would be the least vcore setting i could use if i set the default voltage to 1.85v???

The pin wrap changes the default CPU voltage, even if you set it lower, it will remain where you wrapped (shorted) the pins. You can raise it in the bios, but, not lower it.

Also, those articles are for the pin wrap of a B0 processor not a C1 stepped CPU.

I wrapped the first 3 pins on my 2.66 and got 1.825vcore istead of 1.775v, so be careful...better yet find the C1 pin layout first.

Just my .02....:)

You modded the first 5 pins, now i am very confused:confused:

Yeah that gives the max voltage of 1.85v

And that will DEFINATELY and 100% for sure will work on my 3.06??? And also sysfailur once you have that mod can you still run lower voltages for everday use??

if you can't wrap it around the pins, you can do what I did for tricking my motherboard. I use a B cpu (533), I tricked the board so that it believes it's a A cpu.

I just bend a very thin wire in a U shape en placed in the two holes of the socket and placed my cpu back.

and done ... :)

I did it on a 2.26B. I don't see why it WOULDN'T work on a 3.06 p4, they're all the same. I can't garuntee you it though. But there is a 95% chance it would work. And yes you can just change the voltage in the bios to a lower setting. :)

For the sake of overkill I'll repeat a question I asked on another thread... at what voltage are people seeing their P4's die rapidly? Is it a few, many, or all who try the volt mod trick?

After a little experimenting, I must correct and clearify my ealier statement. If I put the 2.66B processor that has the first 3 pins wrapped (vid4,vid3, vid2) into my TH7IIR Mobo ( Mr. N's 7f bios), the bios reads it as 1.725v.

I can adjust the vcore BOTH up and down. If adjusted up the temps increase. When lowered below the 1.725v bios reading the temps come down. This means to me that Sysfailur is correct when he says you can lower the vcore in the bios below the shorted value caused in the pin-mod. :)

When I place this same processor into my GA-8IHXP rev.3, the bios reads it as 1.825v and I can ONLY adjust up to 1.850v. There is no lower vcore settings available in this (F7) bios.

Thanks Sysfailur, I learned something from this, I like that! :)

I wouldn't go over 1.7volts with water or air or supercooling for that matter, or you may risk S.N.D.S (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=115166)

But this is my opinion

whether u can drop the voltage depends on ur board

AFAIK on the IT7 series, u can connect 4 pins and set default to 1.85 and at the same time lower the volts in the bios
