so are you STILL at 2.7V ?!?!?!
i explained him already a few times he NEEDS 2.9V for his two rev2 sticks but he's obviously afraid they'll blow up once he goes over 2.7....
@Fragman: Thx but i have read the link http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=57317 and my system runs perfectly.
No i have 2.8v now plz check DFI-Street Forum i have post my setting.

Maybe because Bluetooth is a network connection? ;)
You're most likely right there mate.
The thing is, even with my older Logitech Cordless Duo (top of the range until they released the MX700 series kb & mouse), I still have problems installing the keyboard drivers/programs untill I disable WinXP SP2 FireWall as well as the NF3/4 FireWall...
On a different note:
I'm having one h3ll of a time trying to OC my 3500+/SLI-D/VX4000...
Was getting errors at 11x205HTT with 3.2v shoved up the VX4000's a$$...
Errors withing the first few minutes or my rig turning off...
I've read that a few folks are using the Enermax 460w PSU (20pin) w/out any problems... 33amps for all the rails so it should be able to handle my rig fine...
I have the 4 pin molex & the floppy drive connecter hooked up but I still get these problems...
Might be the RAM as I was getting errors at 240MHz on my K8N Neo2. I have spent numerous hours/days finetuning my 3200+ as well as my 3500+ & they can do at least 240 but the ram don't seem to like it... Either that or the ram if faulty...
I bought the RAm new but when I cam home to open the pakage, I noticed that there was some evidence that someone had tried to clean the heatspreaders from fingerprint...
Any advice in getting a stable rig?? Don't wanna have to get a 24pin PSU as I know that my PSu can handle it. It's not like I'm running SLI or anything, just an X850XT...
Cheers,
Minnyboy
Phew, that was a lot of typing...

Guys,
Please help me with my OC. I'm really frustrated with XP getting FUBAR'ed everytime I reboot.
System Specs:
DFI LP NF-4 Ultra D, 3/25/05 BIOS
A64 3500+ NC ADA3500DEP4AW CBAUC 0420 MPMW
512 x 2 Mushkin Lvl II Black PC3200
1x Hitachi 80Gb SATA, 1 x Maxtor 60Gb IDE
XFX 6600GT
Fortron Blue Storm AX500-A
SB Live 5.1 ,XP-90 + Tornado +1 800mm and 1 92mm fan blowing directly on the 4V DRAM Vltg select MOSFET and on the RAM.
Current settings:-
1.DRAM running 1:1 with FSB @ 2-2-2-10-1T, 3.4V (everything else on AUTO)
2.CPU Statup VID 1.550V
CPU VID 1.5 V
CPU VID Special control 110%
3.LTD Voltage 1.2 V
CPU 233 x 11 MHz. All 3 power connectors plugged in
4.Chipset Vltg 1.5V
This is what happened so far:-
5.Installed XP Pro
6.Installed SP2
7.Installed DX 9c
8.Intalled NV drivers from the MoBo CD
9.Installed SBC Yahoo DSL stuff (A problem occured here. MS VM installs, but the dialer is unable to connect to the DSL network. However, I can get online with no problems. The dialer just sits there forever, so I aborted the install as I had full connectivity).
10.Did a Windows update
11.Reboot
12.I can see no Icons or the taskbar, wallpaper just stares at me.
13.Ctrl+Alt+Del brings up the taskmanager but I don't see explorer.exe in the process list.
14. Did a system Restore, retried steps 6 onwards, same damn problem.
What is causing this? Are my memory settings too tight? The only reason I bought this board was to let my BH-5 fly. Since that's not happenning, I'm very frustrated.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
S-N

Mate,
How do I start explorer manually? The funny thing is my rig is Memtest stable at 234 x 11, using the thumb rule that one should lower the OC by 10Mhz for windows stability, I expected it to be stable. Obviously, I'm doing something very wrong here. My system worked fine at stok settings, but that's not why I got this board, right? :D
I'm going to try flashing to 3-31-2 before I attempt another install. Any suggestions in the interim period would be greatly appreciated.

Winnie 3200+ 1.3v 123% ~ 1.5v
2x512 OCZ EL 3200+ rev2.0 2.9v

No i haven't a active cooling on the sticks (there are only heatspreader).
I have tested the actual timings -> it's prime stable but i can't play any games (it's freezes or a black output).
Nothing runs over 270 :(

I cant get into the bios. What happens is my pc starts, fans all going, led goes from to 4 and back to 1 and then the cpu fan stops and my other fan slows down. On my monitor it shows the Lanparty splash screen but thats all it does. Keyboard button seems to freeze up. All this happen after the system beeps. So I dont even get to see the bios screen. I've cleared CMOS and remove the battery as well. Doesnt change a thing.

Nope. I have the bare minimum connected to the mobo. Only 2 80mm fans, graphic card, and 1 stick of ram. No HDD, FDD or even CD-ROM connected to the mobo.
I doubt that this is the cause but I didnt install the Karajan audio module and I havent change any of the jumpers on the board. Its all on default.

Hey guys, fake login here so i apologise for that, dont want to register...
as to people commenting on tony (bigtoe) running 3.3V and greater without using the 5V rail, thats an easy one.
Grab that nice block you use to set your ram voltages to 5V, and move it one row down, so the pins nearest the edge of the boot (should be 3 pins) have nothing covering them. Then get a spare jumper, and cover the uncovered pin as if it were on 3.3V
the pins closest to the ATX plug control the bios options, the one furthest away is the one that chooses 3.3V / 5.0V rail... so its simple, mix and match.
(you need adjusted rails to do this, 3.7V rail gets you about 3.5V in bios)
confirmation: move the block one step towards the ATX plug, as if it were 5V. use a normal jumper such as that on a HD, to cover the pins that are left as if it were 3.3V. this gives you the bios options, but on the 3.3V rail...

Issue resolved momentarily!
Its was the junk ISP install CD which was the cause of my woes. Apparantly, the ISP's CD installed a junk version of MS VM. What happened was it loaded a module at startup which tried to connect to the ISP's server (unsuccessfully) and this caused the system to crash. Another issue was the crappy IDE SW Driver bundled with the DFI CD. I must have installed it by mistake.
Current settings: 2-2-2-5-1T @ 232 MHz, 3.4V
CPU 232 x 11. Nothing spectacular, but I'll hang with this for the moment. Its getting bloody hot in my room so I'm a bit wary to push my rig further.

Yes many programs of DFI are very buggy :( . Last chance is the DFI Support.

There is a Zippy PSU bug 5v jumper bug on this motherboard .
If this indeed works to circumvent that bug,you will have made lots of people happy.

I think you misunderstood what he said.
The ISP problem has nothing to do with DFI, and Nvidia has a crappy IDE driver, so most folks do not install it, hence using Microsofts instead.

When the UT's showed up at newegg a couple of weeks ago, I thought for sure I would have a newer board, but I got an A00 with 1/25 BIOS. I did flash the BIOS to 331-3 beta and it seems to be working great. Is there a better BIOS to use with my Patriot TCCD?

I'm planning to buy a DFI NF4 Ultra-D
But I don't have a PCI-Express compliant PSU, but its surely a good PSU.
I have an Enermax 470W PSU model # EG475P-VE SFMA
The DFI has a 24PIN ATX PSU connector, there are adapters 20pin to 24pin connector.
With an adapter/cable I can plug it without problems and use with the DFI. What do you think?
I really dont want to replace this PSU, as it was expensive, I had to order it from US.

it is generally not recommended to use 20->24pin adaptors but to instead get a native 24 pin PSU, else you might very well experience stability problems, as the board is not designed to run with 20 pin PSUs...but you can always try the one you have

I agree with you, problems can happen, because would be out of specs...
I found this topic very interesting at anandtech.com:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=27&threadid=1478987&enterthread=y
The 20 to 24pin doesn't sound a good idea, it can cause too much load on one rail split into two. Its recommended to plug the 20 pin in the 24 pin connector, and leave the "extra" 4 pins empty.
I don't know how ATX 2.0 are built, but basically this can explain the new standard, with the separation of rails to supply graphics card via the additional 4pins through the PCI-E interface.
Most new ATX 2.0 PSUs have two 12V rails, but the 5V rail is just one, with more wattage.
Mine is 1.3 but it has also 2 12V rails, (15A and 18A), plus a separate molex connector to plug in VGAs. So I think I won't be im trouble with a DFI NF4 Ultra-D + 6800GT PCI-E.
But doing SLI (not my intention) should be compromised, and also, I won't be able to use the 5V rail to supply more vdimm (4.0v). But I don't want to go over 2.9V. And seems the limit is 3.1 with the 3.3V jumper

Using a 20pin PSU is a luck out the draw - some people (like me) get away without any stability issues, others just can't get it to work right. Order the mobo, try it and if you get some stability problems where there should be none, replace the PSU.

Hi,
I've the following setup:
-DFI NF4 Ultra
-Bequiet 470 W
-X800 XL
-A64 3200+
and 2x 512 MB Twinmos speed Premium. I had several crashes and tested the ram with memtest and I got always errors, in each VDimm or latency/speed and configuration (so sticks alone, sticks in yellow/orange). So I thought the ram is the problem and send it back, but my Dealer told me today that the ram is 100% fine. So what's then the Problem the mainboard, the CPU or what?
PS I'll get some new 4000 OCZ VX but I believe this won't solve my problem.

:D i'm the biggest noob ever or maybe was drunken by building the pc. I have forgot the 4 pin floppy adapter (well I have no one so I don't worry about) and I used the normal HDD apapter for the 4 pin HDD. Now I plug in the floppy adapter (don't know if it is the floppy adapter, but is the only 4 pin adapter i've found) and I changed the hdd adapter with hdd/vga adapter from the ps. And my first memtest without a error. Well I have a 6 pin pcie adapter over, for what is that? I'll test the next days and hope that was the problem. Thanks for help so far, but I've to :slapass: myself
Good to see you solved your power problem ;)
FYI... the 6-pin PCIe adapter is for power hungry PCIe graphics cards... they have a mating cnx on the end of the card.

Ok, I've been clocking around with my CBBID 0501 and I'm up to 230x10@1,4V x 113% now and it's prime stable.
Problem is that when I'm doing Memtest I always get errors in the first pass test 6. I've tried different clocks, and it's always test 6 pass 1 that get's some errors. Rest is fine. Anyone of you got any suggestions? I'm running pretty tight timings I think (2-2-2-5), don't have the exact ones here right now though.

same problem I have currently, don't know how to fix it, i've tested so may different timings no gone, yesterday I had one pass with zero errors, but today no go. my bluescreens perhaps result by my audigy 2 which uses by booting irq 7 same as the smbus, in windows it uses irq 19. Now I test my sys without the audigy 2, run better so far, but no solution :/ .

Hm, okey. My computer has been running stable for about a week now 24/7 without any crashes or problems.
I found most of my problems to occur when rebooted after shutdown awhile, once it's running and leave it on 24/7 its fine for the duration. But the "next morning syndrome" was when mine had most of the issues ie USB wont work, all the sudden not prime or SuperPI stable, etc. If it was running ok and I left it running it was usually fine so that doesn't really help unless you start powering up and down I think you'll see some of the issues others are talking about.

Same exact problems with mine, RMA'd it for another but I have a Neo4 on the way - too many problems with the DFI board. My usb devices would just disappear. Mine would freeze at the device id screen right after post.
So i have tested with 4-4-8 Bios 310P. It runs but not if you play a game which need high memory. I tested with SIlent Hunter 3. This game crashes every time. I tested my settings with memtest (15 passes without errors) and with Memory Analyzer (crashes BSOD - classpnp.exe). 3-3-8 doesn't run (memtest errors). I have no reason to remove my problem. Which program can i trust? Memtest or Memory Analyzer? I tested even with prime95, Sandra. No errors.
Have you any idea?

Just set up my rig, works good on shipping BIOS. Will post back when i get to oc'ing this beast. :)
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp my system now run for over 16 hours. A combination of:
-new irq for soundcard
-disabled onboard stuff I don't need
-very conserative timings for the infineon of dad
-the right power setup
-310 bios
has fixed a lot :woot:
Thank you but the same problem. I tried many settings. Too many and it's the same problem. I believe it's maybe my Mobo or Ram or CPU. I have IRQ settings on auto. Nothing is stable. It's enough with DFI

Fragman']i have said this a couple of times, but this fora is very big....
find all USB jumpers and set them to pin 2-3 instead of 1-2 ...and Bingo your USB devices wont f*ck with you no more :)
I have done that, but my usb keyboards (all of them) won't type the : symbol at a dos prompt. If I connect a ps2 keyboard it is fine, and in windows the usb keyboards type : fine. What's up with that bit of wierdness. :(

hi guys, im new in the forums and i liked a lot this space dedicated to dfi lanparty nforce 4 problems, so here is mine.... :p:
i own a dfi lanparty sli-d and i changed the bios to the lastest fixed one. i have a pair of 1 gig 2 x512mb twinx corsair xtra low latency, that i bought from a friend, i saw them playing at 245mhz 2 2 2 5 at 3.1v!!! :slobber:.
but when i paired with my lanparty i can't even get them with 3 .1 volts to 200 mhz 2 2 2 5 and i've tried everything from 2.7 to 3.2 without moving the jumper..
also my bios voltages freezes repently and they don't obbey when i tried to change them, and i have to turn down my pc and the psu switch to make them change again... wtf????????
so i hope theres one helpful soul that can help me with my problem :D

problem is that those RAMs often wont go with your new dfi......sorry, but you are not alone....
I've just found out that the 1st PCI slot on mine is on the fritz. Do you lose any performance by usiung the second slot?
For some reason I was getting random lockups with the vid card in the first slot, especially opening menus and 3Dmark but this seems to have stopped with the card in the second slot. I'm using an Ultra D with the SLI pencil mod btw, I might un-mod it next time I remove the Chipset sink.

Hey, guys... I looked through a few posts but I cannot read 33 pages right now. How do I know what my tRC should be set to? Is it supposed to be tRAS plus 2? Also, I have no clue how to adjust the DRAM idle timer. Mine says 256!!! on cpu-z. That seems a bit high.
Also, I've seen some other settings in my bios that have like 4 digit numbers... no clue what it is or what it should be set to.
If there's a simple tutorial about the basic settings I guess that would be the best way to direct me.
P.S. I'm looking for an SLI bridge if anyone wants to help direct me.

Addone from me. Watchout if your system is unstable with entering to bios or saveing settings in CMOS reloaded. Ive got corruption of it. Now i cant enter to the bios, but windows is bootable( flashing bios isnt helping coz its not erasing data in cmos reloaded ).

Why don't you try draining your board's power completely. Turn it off, wait for lights to go out, then pump your power switch button several times. Take out the battery, leave your system unplugged for about 10 miuntes, then clear your cmos via the jumper. Then put battery in and try to turn on with safe boot... don't know if that'll work, but it's worth a shot :(

Well another weird behavior.
I shut down my pc after it being on for maybe 3 hours. Forgot i needed to look at an email so i boot it back on, itd crash loading windows saying bad physical memory or whatnot, itd reboot too quickly for me to see.
So i come back home (3 hours later) i try to boot it, same issue. I load optimized default, everything boots fine. Come back to my cmos reloaded setting, still no go, same issue as before.
I LOWER the vdimm from 3.2 to 3.1, and it loaded.
This mobo is haunted.

There is a Zippy PSU bug 5v jumper bug on this motherboard .
If this indeed works to circumvent that bug,you will have made lots of people happy.
FYI:my 3.3v pot goes 3.43 max on my Zippy

I just got new Zippy 700w and 5v jumper on DFI nf4 Ultra D is fine. I can set to 3.6v no problems. But i dont know DFI fix or Zippy fixed.:D

LOL, I was incognito, as I think I would probably get an instant ban on DFI street if I posted as myself.
The only problem I have now is my Gskill. I got fed up of having to pump 3.1v into them to get them semi stable. So I'm using 2x256Mb Speed premium now.
I've sent OPB a couple of PMs but he hasn't replied to them since I asked him to test them. I was hoping he would test them out for me to see if they are okay. If he doesn't get back to me I'll have to sell the G.Skill and replace it with some of the new OCZ BH-5 gold, which would be a shame in a way. But I need some decent mem, 512MB feels so slow now when using windows, especially when booting up.
Is there a way to set HTT to 3.5x on this mainboard ?

Is there any link with a BIOS collection for the NF4 Ultra-D ?
I received my board last monday, and have been running with my Enermax 470W SFMA ATX 1.3 PSU 20-pin without problems. Voltages are good and stable, system is stable.
The chipset runs a bit hot heh? Specially because its so badly placed, my 6800GT blocks partially the airflow, and it touches the plastic casing of the chipset cooler.
Put a fan blowing into the chipset fan, don't know if its just cosmetic change, but temperature dropped 7ºC
now at idle, system is ATM CPU 31ºC PWM 35ºC and chipset 47ºC
I just don't get it :
- ran memtest#5 and 8 for hours NO ERRORS
- ran prime95 for hours NO ERRORS
- ran superpi 16&32MB NO ERRORS
And still i get random freezing or reboots on some aplications....like opening IE/OE or doing more stuff at once....

Well, this may be :
a. IDE SW Driver from nvidia : notoriously buggy (I had many bsod because of it) => uninstall it.
b. Nvidia Ethernet / or Active Armor => try uninstalling it and using the marvel port instead.
Careful : using the Marvel ethernet I had to drop down my overclocking a LOT cause everything went unstable.
(I prefer to leave it disable in GENIE bios and have better OC).
c. something else.
good luck.

Guys,
Is anyone having a problem with the NVidia SM Bus driver? Is it even necessary. All my IRQ_LESS_THAN_NOT_EQUAL_TO errors (BSOD errors) have a line telling me that the SM_BUS driver could have problems.
Can I do without the system managed bus driver? I'm getting tired of the junk NVidia software. First it was the IDE Driver, now this.

try increasing chipset voltage and ldt voltage one notch (from default)...NV drivers do NOT make problems for me *EXCEPT* that s/w IDE drivers which i finally uninstalled becuse i had issues. Nvidia s/w ide drivers are evil !
Otherwise your BSODs could mean everything.....like wrong memory timings/ instable system or just too high an overclock on the CPU.
Could it be my PSU ?

Tedy try clearing cmos.
My board is actually running now ( ya may have seen my rant at DFI-street), and the only way it would run right is I had to kep clearing cmos , I bet I cleared it 50x, short and long intervals.
It wouldn't run at all, or barely run.
Right now I am priming 295x9, primed 290 for 2 1/2 hrs( stock hsf/3000+ winny).
I kept reseating ram/ swapping slots and clearing cmos to get it going again..
I am not clocking with clockgen anymore, I am using the bios and booting these speeds, as I think my clockgen may have become corrupt or something stupid like that ( I will reinstall it).
I saw your post at DFI-Street, but I didnt say anything, as I am not sure whats up.

I did both Tedy, and as stated MANY times
I turned on my ultra-D this morning, and got the 3 led syndrome again, but this time 1 cmos clear worked( which was very surprising after fighting with the board for 2 days the last time), I left the battery in this morning.
I think I have an issue with the bios/cmos myself.
I went into CMos reloaded and shutoff the autosave feature, someone at DFI street said it cleared his boot problems, so I'll try anything at this point.

stopped booting, right before I shut my pc down it showing 128C on three temp sensors, which was in no way correct. I could still do anything and no stability issues... That was using the 5V supply and when set the jumper back to 3.3v supply and waited a bit it booted and was able to run fine, except if I'm running the pc and shut it down and try to start it back up right away it will just beep at me....
I tryed that mod using the 3.3v line while still being able to select higher than 3.2v and it works beatifully.... I raised my 3.3v line up to 3.6v and running my mem @ 3.4 stable ......@ 255mhz, but the board is still screwed up, it will still beep at me if it is at all warm.... I have plenty of cooling I sure of that...
Anyway will RMA it, and make sure to use the 3.3v mod, at least I can run up to 3.5v w/o using the 5v line... and no worries about board getting hot....

I have been trying to find out the exact values of the extra memory dividers that the A64 DFI boards have (9:10, 7:10, 3:5) And i think that they are all off.
If i use a common numerator of 24 for all dividers this is what comes out:
111b 24/24 * 200 = 200.00MHz aka 1:1
110b 22/24 * 200 = 183.33MHz aka 9:10 (it's 11:12)
101b 20/24 * 200 = 166.66MHz aka 5:6
100b 18/24 * 200 = 150.00MHz aka 3:4
011b 17/24 * 200 = 141.66MHz aka 7:10 (it's 17:24)
010b 16/24 * 200 = 133.33MHz aka 2:3
001b 15/24 * 200 = 125.00MHz aka 3:5 (it's 5:8)
000b 12/24 * 200 = 100.00MHz aka 1:2
To me it seems to make sense that these are the true dividers.

Well, I'm sure this is covered by someone before but not in this thread at least not from a quick search for chipset.
As more of us are painfully aware, the chipset for the Ultra-D/SLI-D and I'm sure other variations of the same board is located in the absolute worst spot. Especially if you happen to own any high end video card that extends over the chipset cooler. I found with my X850XT if pushed all the way into the PCI-E slot actually pushes down on the chipset cooler and causes it to not make good contact with the chipset. My temps went up to 44C idle. When I lifted the card out slightly to release that pressure my chipset idle temps went down to 37C.
As an experiment to see if I could move to the 2nd PCI-E slot I ran 3DMark05 before and after the move and went from 6231 to 5800 with the same exact settings. So changing slots is not an option. I want to watercool the chipset but that's pretty much impossible without some kind of modded waterblock and I'm not even going there. DFI goes out and makes a great overclockers motherboard but makes the mistake of placing the chipset in the most inconvenient place on the board.
If anyone has any suggestions, I know there are aftermarket air coolers that work well, and I'll probably go with one, but if anyone has a suggestion or solution please PM me.

You shoulda done a search on "chipset" in the main forum ;)

FRUSTRATING PROBLEM.
Not sure if this is a bug or if I just set this up incorrectly. I have two CD drives installed, set to cable select (BIOS recognizes them as Master and Slave automatically). When I try to boot from the winxp cd (i know this disc works, used it before) it gives me a "DISK BOOT FAILURE." I already set the boot order to FDD>CD>HD. I've tried both drives. Everything is straight out of the box and I haven't done anything to the BIOS except change the boot order. Can anyone help?

I did that last night, then I replaced the rounded IDE cable with a spare one from the DFI box. Still get the same problem. I also disconnected everything else (hard drive, floppy, and the other CD drive) so that only one CD drive was connected. It still gives me the same error.
I think I might have configured something incorrectly, but I have no idea what :(

i havent seen a lot of sli-DR models being DoA ?

It doesn't seem DOA since it detects all my devices in the bios. I think I just connected something wrong. I hope so anyway, but I only have a few days left before store's return policy expires, then I'm stuck with RMA :(

Did you try jumpering the other PCIe slot to 16x? By default it is only 2x.

I don't hope this is posted before, but I didn't want to read the entire thread again ;)
On my DFI I want to use a IDE HDD for benching, but I can't get it to work. After format and copying of the first files it reboots, which is normal, but after that I get the message: Error loading operating system. I thought it was the HDD so I tried another (80GB Maxtor) but I got the same message.
Hope someone can help me...
I am having this same problem, anyone with an idea or 2 on what it is? ive tried 4 different hdds and all the same so i know its not them.

please I need some help with DFI nf4 Sli-D and my couple of ADATA Vitesta 600 512mb Pc4800 RAM. I used them with a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum at 255 mhz @ 2,5-3-3-11 1T @2,8v without a single problem. Now on this DFI with bios 310, Adata Vitesta 600 seems to work only @ 2T!!! Infact if I set 1T I cannot install windowsXp at all (I get a BSOD PFN_LIST_CORRUPT just after inst files have been copied onto hdd). Using onboard MemTest+ I realized that @ 1T I cannot pass test 8 (it produces hundreds of error!!!). I tried to switch Ram on the orange (2-4) slots. Now I am totally stable (S&M and Prime95) @ 260x10 1:1 (with a 3500+Venice@1,47v) with 3-3-3-7 2T 2,7v. I tried increasing voltage up to 2,85 but I continue to get errors if I set 1T. I am going to cool my Ram since it's definitely much hotter than on MSI (that's weird since it's working @ 2,7v vs 2,8 I had on MSI).
Now I would like to know:
1. can you give me any suggestion to get 1T with my Vitesta 600?
2. I flashed bios 510-3 and 510-1 because I read on other forums 510-3 is for TCCD while -1 is generic. Here I learned that 510-2 is for TCCD, can you confirm this? Anyway with 510 I was able to get 1T @ 260 only setting 3-5-5-11 passing MemTest+ but definitely smashing performance into thousands of pieces....My PSU is an Enermax Noisetaker 600W v2.0, if this can help.
Thank you very much for any reply

maybe I have the strangest problem on the face of earth with my damned SLI-D and ADATA Vitesta 600, please read this email I sent to DFI tech support and tell me what you think:
Dear DFI Tech Support,
I have bought from a week a DFI Lp Nf4 SLI-D board REV RA02 and I had only nightmares from the very moment I turned my pc on.
First of all let me say that before buying DFI, I was using a MSI K8N Neo2 PT NForce3 board without a single problem with the very same hardware I am going to list (obviously I changed the VGA card from AGP to PCI-Ex):
PSU Enermax Noisetaker 600W
DFI lanparty SLI-D Rev RA02 (default bios was 125)
RAM ADATA VITESTA 600 Pc 4800 512mbx2 dual channel on slots 1 and 3 (orange ones)
CPU AMD A64 3500+ Venice core (E3) with Thermalright SP90 heatsink.
VGA Point of View GeForce 6800Ultra 256mbDDR3 (now PCI-Express, on MSI it was the AGP model)
SB Audigy2 PCI Audio card
on SATA 3 Western Digital RAPTOR 36GB HDD
on SATA 1 & 2 Maxtor Maxline10 300GB 16mb cache HDD
on IDE 1 2x Pioneer 109 DVDRW Drives (master and slave)
on IDE 2 1x NEC DVR 3540 DVDRW Drive (master)
Let me explain in detail the problem I had first with final bios 310:
my memory was automatically recognized by this DFI as 3-3-6-3 1T @ default fsb (200mhz) but I could not install windows at all due to a blue screen (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error). I was forced to set 2T (CPC disabled) to install windows and let my pc run without problems, in fact no matter what timings or ram settings I tried, I could never pass memtest if I was keeping 1T (CPC) enabled. (on MSI board the same identical RAM was costanlty working @ 260 fsb 2,5-3-8-3 @ 2,8v 1T!!!!!). on overclock with bios 310 I had no problems with my ram reaching 260 fsb (1:1) only if CPC was DISABLED! .
Reading various forums including DFI ones, I discovered there were various beta bios from Mr. Oskar Wu and I tried various of them including release 510. Moreover a new final version was out yesterday (now I see it has been removed due to some issues it had with USB mouse and Keyboard) named 615. INCREDIBLY and above all with "final" bios 615 my adata vitesta 600 were able to perform incredibly well even @ 1T and even overcloking FSB up to 260mhz I was able to keep 1T adjusting other timings BUT and here comes the HUGE problem I have with this board, everytime I turn my PC OFF and then ON again if I do not stay @ standard FSB the POST fails to complete. To be more precise as soon as I turn on the pc CPU infos and RAM timings appears and then POST seems freezed but after a few seconds it is able to list IDE DRIVES and then freezes again and forever on detecting SATA 1 and 2 that fail to be recognized (with some FSB values only one of the two Maxtor HDDs on SATA 1 & 2 is recognized). If I am so lucky to reach bios again (this happens when one on two HDD is recognized) to load optimized defaults, save and exit, this reveals to be USELESS since POST FAILS in the same way as bios is corrupted and the only thing I have to do is to CLEAR CMOS to let system go again. Curiously soon after a CMOS reset I can do whatever overclock operation I wish, boot and reboot thousands of times without a single POST failure, BUT IF I turn the pc off with FSB set above standard, when I turn it on again the board will never POST!!! THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WITH EVERY BIOS EVEN IF RAM IS SET @ 2T!!!! ONLY WITH BIOS 310 THIS Problem does not occur, but my ram is very very underperforming with this bios!!! MOREOVER with every bios @ 260 FSB the chipset fan starts to act in a very strange way automatically increasing speed up to 7000+ rpm and soon going down to 5000 rpm every 3 seconds producing an ASMA like and very disturbing sound!!! Again BIOS 310 is NOT affected at all by this strange chipset fan syndrome. All in all I find BIOS 310 is the best one for stability but it does not allow me to use my ram @ 1T no matter what I try (I was able to use 1 T only @ 4-5-9-5 and a many other setting at maximum value). Many people on the forums told me to RMA my board because of this weird problems but I am sure it all depends on my RAM and bios settings.

Keep in mind that intake/exhaust case fans are playing an important rol on cooling.

I might buy the blue one as well, but you had to cut its top to mount a fan on top of it ?
I might throw some higher CFM fans on the front and rear of my case...the air blowing out of the back of my case isn't very hot though...

Hello
My setup is in my sig, everything is ready and connected now...
So.. heres the problem.
*Booting for the first time*
So I try to boot and then the screen stays on the "DFI Lanparty NF4" logo...
So I checked the little status leds on the bottoms left to see watup~ and the first LED is on.. which is odd because it means "VGA Detected"..
So... what seems to be the problem officer?
I've tried disconnecting hdd and opticals, switching the mem around, trying single and dual on different slots and nothing seems to work...

I have a cold boot problem in my dfi board. When I give more than 3.2volts to my mushkin ram, sometimes the board doesn't boot. I tried everything to get the system running, including resettin cmos, turning the ps switch on and off several times, changing ram slots, using different ram, using one stick on orange slots, but the only thing that worked is using one stick on the top yellow slot. By this way I was able to boot the system up. I wanted to share this experience with you. Does any of you solve this problem any other way?

when I run 9X278 1:1 2.5-4-4-10 2.80Vdimm (which should be preety easy for my memory) I'm memtest stable (hour of looping memtest #5)
but when I'm in windows, I can't pass even super pi 1MB!!! why???
on my neo2 with same cpu i was running 9X278 1.36Vcore for a few months no problem.
I disabled the CPU throttling (not sure if I should). the other thing is that my chipset gets very, very hot (About 52C idle) and PWN also (about 48idle)
I tried to run 8X278 but super pi still no go, so I assume it's not the memory.
I'm running everything at auto settings except throttling, LTD, FSB and mem voltage. What should I do??? please help me out guys, I want to play san andreas:D

Its just a difference in memory controllers. You'll have to tweak the DRAM settings differently for every new CPU you install because the MC is never going to be exactly the same. Sometimes you can use the same settings and sometimes you can't.

The default LDT voltage on my Ultra-D is 1.2V so its definitely overvolting it if you havn't changed the setting in the BIOS. 1.53V shouldn't damage anything because i run mine up to 1.5V but i dont see why it would be that high if you didn't adjust it yourself.

So I really don't get it. There's the Cold Boot problem where if you unplug the AC power, your mobo forgets what original voltage it was set to. Some people have had luck with BIOS fixes and what not, but if I'm correct, this problem occurs with UTT and still exists right? That means VX and Redline especially. Is this a problem for BH5?
Also, what's with sticks of Redline and VX dying? Is this linked to the Cold Boot problem or what is this? Is this separate? And is this an issue for only those running @ very high voltages i.e. 3.5 or so?

Not sure if this is the correct thread, but anyways.
I have a doubt on DFI Ultra-D mobo.
Is it possible to have Cool'n'Quiet and OC active at the same time?
This is, like on MSI (with DOT) or Asus mobos.

You do not really want to...it will screw with the overclock as I understand it...and I was always told to disable Thermal Throttling..
So I really don't get it. There's the Cold Boot problem where if you unplug the AC power, your mobo forgets what original voltage it was set to. The problem is/was that on a cold-boot the Vmem was set to ~2.5V instead of the value programmed in the BIOS. It will affect any memory that won't run at SPD timings @ ~2.5V.
That part of the cold-boot problem is fixed in BIOS versions released in June.
What remains (and not fixable in the BIOS) is that Vmem is applied to the DIMM slots before the MB is turned on when AC removed/reapplied to PS. That means always check the Vmem power LED to make sure Vmem is not applied before installing/swapping/removing DIMMs.
Also, what's with sticks of Redline and VX dying? Is this linked to the Cold Boot problem or what is this? Is this separate? And is this an issue for only those running @ very high voltages i.e. 3.5 or so?
Some people thought their DIMMs were dead because of the cold-boot/low-Vmem problem... regarding the rest...my thoughts for whatever they might or might no be worth are in this post (http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=927883#post927883).

I am having a strange problem sometimes...the resolution will flash down to about 640x480 size and will blend things together like vertical stripes and what not. It doesn't cause the PC to crash but I can't do anything else really but reset it. Everything maintains its size and all. I can not determine what is causing it. It has never done it while running a game or anything else 3D. Just when opening a program and I remember it doing it a few times when I opend nTune monitor...so I uninstalled that. Thanks for the help.

Is anyone experiencing inconsistent overclocking stability. When I first got my new cpu (0519BPEW VENICE) it needed 1.68vcore and it primed for 18 hours at 9x300, the next day it needed 1.7vcore and now today it needed 1.72vcore and prime failed after 2 hours, sometimes it won't prime for less than a minute and sometimes it primes for 40+ minutes under the same settings, WTH?. I've flashed every bios from 310-1 to 623-3 and I get the same results. My stability it seems is very inconsistent and I am unable to pinpoint the source of my problem. I monitor my voltage rails under prime and they are very solid and consistent at 3.34v/5.10v/12.3. My temperatures are also fine.
I can't figure out my stabiliy issues...I have tried higher voltage even...I still get those random errors...MemTest runs fine and I have yet to run Prime95 error-free. I am going to let it run stock tonight and see how it does.
I don't get it...I keep having the same problem...it makes the screen go all f*ucked up. It has to be a software thing though...because it does it only when a program is opened...but it is always different...it doesn't make sense at all...I am so confused...

I have one problems with Nvidia drivers that makes system lock when it feels like it.
Sometimes runs fine a whole day and sometimes locks in games and stuff after 15 minutes.
Get rid of them if you use them.

No, that bios won't do it. You need 510 bios or later. I think that 623 is the best bios for the X2.
Can someone link me to the BIOS that would be best for my setup....specs in Sig...because I can't seem to find the right BIOS for my setup. Thanks.
Also I think the 2D on my video is screwed up and I am going to have to RMA it...BFG is calling me back today. It only screws up at desktop. And the overlay and everything is screwed up.

I still have some doubts about my next purchase (DFI Ultra-D and A64 Venice)
The thing is, I read somewhere that unless you update your BIOS, you'll have troubles or issues with a venice core.
Now, If I only have a venice processor (my first A64 system), is it even possible to flash the board with the venice plugged??
What about the memory killing, some people talk around? (EMC2 said up here it's a myth, not real)
Or the need to boot with a high vdimm (near 3v) to achieve stability?
I'm going to buy normal memory, so I doubt it will be able to resist a high voltage.
Are this scary things solved with a BIOS update?
Otherwise, my second option is the Asus A8N (Nforce4 Ultra), is that a nice mobo or just normal?
Thanks on your replys :)

Hmmm... I removed the "chewinggum" and replaced it with AS5...
Put the nb-fan-speed to maximum in bios...
Roomtemperature = 25°C, Northbridge = 40°C
Still at stockspeed with 4200 X2, think I'll have to improve cooling though...
with two folding instances running at 100%, cpu temp rises to 52°C, both nTune and Everest call that "motherboard temperature", but I guess the simply switched both sensors.
But the X2 is nice... Will take some time to get it at topspeed...
I ordered this Chipset cooler and will throw some AS5 on it...

Hello guys!
I have a new problem with my system.
I often tried any stable oc settings for my bad Winnie (began with 2.5-3-3-8 until 2.5-4-3-10). The last was also 2.5-4-3-10. I used those settings 2 weeks ago until yesterday. It ran stable with Memtest, OCCT and Memory Analyzer until yesterday i often got BSOD (ntoskrnl.exe) in a random time. Ever more than the last BSOD time. So i run OCCT again and the result is NOT STABLE. I can't understand it. 2 weeks than my CPU goes down? I have reinstalled Win2k with the same settings but i got same BSODs. So i set up lower FSB (250x9 240x9) but i got the same problems. So i tried 220x9 with same settings but i can't get this system stable! At last i tried another settings 2.5-5-5-10 (2.5-4-4-8 is unstable) with 223x9 and it runs stable until now. So i install more programs and games and i hope it stays stable.
But i can't understand. 2 weeks than 100% BSODs? What's happen? My CPU will die?
Those are the settings in the 2 weeks.

of the following bios options:
CPU VID Startup Value (currently set to 1.45V)
CPU VID Control (currently set to 1.45V)

I still have some doubts about my next purchase (DFI Ultra-D and A64 Venice) If you aren't in a hurry... I would wait a little and see if a) a new rev of the MB does come out and b) if you like ATI cards wait and see how the grouper based MBs are ;)
The thing is, I read somewhere that unless you update your BIOS, you'll have troubles or issues with a venice core.
Now, If I only have a venice processor (my first A64 system), is it even possible to flash the board with the venice plugged??Here's a link where Steven ran one of the first Venice chips on an old BIOS, no problem, so don't let that bother you:
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=57291
That said, newer BIOSes seem to be better for the Venices... but you will be able to boot and run without them.
What about the memory killing, some people talk around? (EMC2 said up here it's a myth, not real) :slapass: Please don't misrepresent what I said :nono: ...never said nor indicated it was/is a myth... what I did say is that some of the deaths weren't deaths... and some of the real deaths may have been due to other causes... if you read the post I linked above and others, I also said "the jury is still out on some causes" ;)
Or the need to boot with a high vdimm (near 3v) to achieve stability?
I'm going to buy normal memory, so I doubt it will be able to resist a high voltage. Different memory likes different voltages... some like 2.6, some closer to 3V, some 3.5V... but "near 3V" is not high Vmem in general ;)
Are this scary things solved with a BIOS update?
Based on your intended use and the use of TCCx type memory, nothing scary exists...
Thanks on your replys :)
You're welcome :D

Is it correct to remove the Chipset cooler it is like the old 9800Pro video cards with pinching the clips on the back...?
Yes to the HS removal method... be sure to leave on the foam spacer between the HS and nF4 chipset (prevents the HS from getting ":banana::banana::banana:ed" at an angle and shorting against things)... or take some of the rubber feet off an old athlon and use them at the corners ;)
Regarding BIOS to use with your mem... I would say 310-3, 331-3, or 510fixed-3. And your mem is TCCx based, so you aren't going to OC very high with 2-2-2 timings ;) Look thru the Extreme Bandwidth and Overclocking threads for timings and voltages for your mem and CPU.
--- jetjaguar ---
The nF4 chipset does get hot... your 54C is about average for the stock configuration HS/TIM combo. You can use some AS5 (CAREFULLY) or Ceramique to replace the stock thermal transfer material and get those temps down a bit. Use screws & nuts on it instead of the plastic pins would help some too (use nylon washer on bottom of MB to prevent possible shorts). There's a thread around here on chipset cooling solutions... search for the words DFI chipset HS or similiar ;)

:woot: Hey, Thanks a lot, I was thinking everybody was ignoring me
You know, I'm considering going for the Asus A8N-E (it's nforce4 Ultra, also).
The problem I see (I'm not a hardcore OC) is that the DFI mobo (while it's awesome) is hard to setup, and you also need good components to pair with it. I mean, expensive memory and PSU. (at least expensive for me, I want to make a normal system, maybe OC a bit).
So, unfortunately, I must go other route, because I will buy normal memory and PSU (and from what I read on DFI-Street forums, they are not recommended).
Anything else you (or somebody) can tell me, Thanks Again.

Try in bios to set:
NB FAN FULLY ON IF NB Temp > 25°C
NB FAN FULLY OFF IF NB Temp < 25°C
This way, NB-fan stays at topspeed... Do that and check temps again...
(I reach 37°C with those settings, cpu and gpu watercooled, so it will be higher with aircooled cpu and gpu)

Nobody seems to know???
CPU VID Startup Value - sets what voltage is applied to your CPU during initial boot and for POST testing. Once you've past the BIOS POST tests, the voltage is changed to that determined by the next two values.
CPU VID Control - sets the base CPU core voltage
CPU VID Special Control - enables you to increase your CPU core voltage by percentages. Multiply "CPU VID Control" by this number to determine the core voltage applied.
People have noticed that in some cases they get a more stable overclock when the use a combination of CPU VID Control and CPU VID Special Control to set the CPU core voltage they want/need. Example: Instead of setting CPU VID Control to 1.5 and CPU VID Special Control to AUTO or 100%, they use 1.225 and 123%.
Other note: Non-default VDIMM values sometimes won't "stick" unless you have CPU VID Special Control set to something other than "Auto"

It should be left at the default 4096. There is no reason for your to change it. It has nothing to do with the amount of memory on your video card. It is NOT The PCI-E equivalent of AGP aperture size. It has to do with the PCI-E spec and lowering it will just lower your performance.

You should use -2 or -3 for TCCD. -1 is supposedly for RAM that runs really tight timings like BH-5. -2 is what most people use for everything.

In this website http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/114 is specificated that -1 is for TCCD 2- for BH5 and -3 is generic.

Simply flash and test and flash and test and flash and test :D
You'll find out what works best for your cpu/board/memory,
that goes a lot faster than browsing the internet or discussing
wether -1 stands for yellow or brown
Until now, 704-3 worked best for my tccd (OCZ rev2), but I will try the other two again to make sure I didn't make some config errors in bios...

DFI NF4 Ultra D is reading my CPU as a FX25 when its a FX57. Is there a bios fix for this ? And I can not install windows x64 with my sata dvd-rw "Plextor" as it just hangs and does nothing, After pressing f6 to install SATA drivers for my x2 WD Raptors 10k rpm HD... it loads the two in then when it says starting windows "The next screen is the pick your Drive and format all that good stuff" just satys stuck. Works just fine when I install Windows XP Pro 32bit. Think I will try a IDE-CDROM just to see if I can install XPx64 unless some one has a fix.
My other 6800GT OC will be here today...I am sitting here waiting for FedEx to arrive..

50+ is still safe from the electronic point of view,
but temps like that will limit your OC.
Is there no possibility to put a 80mm fan blowing from the side of the motherboard in the direction of the chipset???
This is what I did...I took my 120x38mm 108CFM fan blowing straight over it and it stables the temps at 42-44 LoL...It is loud as hell but that is ok...

Hi
Ive been getting some BSOD and some instability, and I think its because of my ram
When I first ran my system, it didnt set up my TCCD Corsair XLpro at stock (2,2,2,5)
They where more loose, so I forced 2,2,2,5
The BIOS I have right now is the "stock" one. havent flashed the board
From what I understand, there are several BIOS from DFI and moded by other people, and some work better with BH-5 and others work better with TCCD
Whats the newest and best BIOS for TCCD ram at CAS 2?

I have been OC'ing my 3000+, but have run into a FSB wall. I can't get my mobo stable over 350 FSB, which is cind of a problem, when i think the CPU has a lot more to offer :D I have tried mounting a 9800 pro cooler, instead of the retail one, but it only lower the temp around 5 C, and gave me 5 FSB more. Though i have been able to get to 367 FSB (3,3 GHz) (very unstable) but using a 120 mm fan, to cool down the chipset.

For me it doesn't really do anything, So far I've tested my board up to 363mhz htt and its all the same wheter I use stock LDT/Chipset voltage or I increase it, it makes no difference. HARDCORECLOCKER, does it make a difference for you? I'm imterested in knowing how so?

I don't have freaky BH-5 that will do anything close to 300. CPU-Z is picking up some bad info from the bios. Does anyone know if this bug is fixxed in any bios after the 414-2 that I am currently running.

Is the stock hsf for the chipset good enough or would an aftermarket solution help?

i heard putting as5 on there helps a bit .. the problem is there is no room with 7800gtxs or any sli setup

That is the only design of the motherboard I do not like...that SLI covers almost all air-flow to the chipset.

Which memory ratio are you running at gun? And have you tried CBI as well?
Maybe some of your silly has rubbed off on your puter :p:

Which memory ratio are you running at gun? Thats a 7:10 or 140fsb divider. All multis show 1:1 ratio on the memory speed.
And have you tried CBI as well? CBI? Whats' that?
Maybe some of your silly has rubbed off on your puter :p: But I wore a condom! I guess its possible. ;)
Edit: Oh Yeah! CBI = Central Brain Identifier Its been a while since I used it but I'll give it a try. I'm guessing no difference. Even memtest sees the same memory speed.
Hi,
Next week I will get DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR with:
- 3000+ Venice
- OCZ 520W PowerStream
- OCZ PC3200 TCC5, got em already
My question is will powerstream be able to handle my systems stably? I heard it is better to plug 20pin atx connector from psu into 24pin mobo's atx connector. Is that true or I will be fine with with 24pin adaptor. I will run single Nvidia 6600GT graphics card. Thanks

Look in here (http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67910&highlight=bios) since you have a Venice and grab the modded 704 BIOS ;)
But I wore a condom! :worm: I guess its possible. ;)
Silliness can penetrate anything tho :p:

If Memtest sees the same thing, then everything else will too... try the BIOS.

I can't get 1t to work with a divider with 2x512 UTT.
After a LOT of work I've gotten 1t running stable in the yellow slots (1t is 100% unstable at any settings in orange slots) with bios 5-10 -2fix and 7-2 -2fix @ 250 2-2-2-5-7-16-2-2-2-1854-1-e-7.0-d-5.5-d-16x-7x-d with 3.5vcore
Anyone know why it wont work with dividers on? (test 8 errors like a mofo)
Also, is there any way I can get my orange slots to run 1t? They clock much better on much less voltage than the yellows.

using the 623-3 bios here with my rig, but something is odd.......cpu wont go very high....stuck 245FSb.....something i didnt think of or tried is the startup VID value ...do you ppl change that when oc'ing?????

Fragman, it depends on how much are you oc'ing...
Maybe just with a VID + x% change is enough for that. Got a Venice 3200+ @ Startup Auto but VID * 110%, getting 1.52V ...that's fair enough for 2700 MHz (300x9 or 270x10) 101% stable.
Btw, I'm using 623-1.
