Ok I got a very nice watercooling setup cooling my 3800+@3ghz@1.6volts and my x800XTPE @ 600/590 @ 1.6volts(1.5v stock). I do not think my cpu temp ever goes above 40C and my vcard temps are great, but.... All the hussle with bringing the system to all the lan parties is killing me  . Once some f***ing f*g was playing with my rad and got the tubes disconnected and water went everywhere.. You guys think if i got the best air cooling for my cpu and vcard will I be able to keep the same overclocks that i do now, safely? By safely I mean how much will it affect the lifespan of my cpu and vcard if I switch to air, due to higher temps?
:toast:

Any help is greatly appreciated ;)

uhh you wil probably end up overheating your system on air cooling with those clocks. i know of not many aircooled rigs that can hanlde 600 on the gpu. viperjohns setups are the only ones i know of. the arctic coolers wouldnt be enough. like a amd cpu heatsink would be alot better choice. i think that would be able to handle it.

and as for your cpu. if its 90nm im not sure, but if u got a 130nm one i doubt in all seriousness that aircooling could hanle the heat very well. you would probably have to back off the mhz a little.

But then again i could be total wrong and it would work just fine :p

Ya its 90nm got my venice express shipped from my texas supplier. Messed around with my clocks and voltages and was able to get rock stable at 1.55 volts at 3ghz. I do not really care that much on the vcard and will likely trade it in for a 6800Gt and overclock that...so I can go sli later. Its the cpu that I am really concerned about..

If you look at the 3DMark05 link in my sig I had my Volt-modded X800 at 672 on the core with an ATISilencer, looking back on it I guess that was pretty stupid :slap:

To answer your question, do you "NEED" water cooling, the answer is no. Just be prepared to lower your overclock a decent amount.

Would that make THAT big of a deal for the cpu cause I just calculated that the cpu puts out 136 watts of heat, now that would make my temp about 51C with a zalman 7700-cu(amb 22 got air conditioning). Will that affect its lifespan by a lot?

no on stock cooling the chips run into the 50's. especially on poor ventilated machines that are sold to large companies.

But Zalman 7700cu is so much better than stock...

It sounds to me that the problem is not your water cooling: it's the people at the lan parties you attend. ;)

Water cooling is far too awesome to give up just because of a couple bad experiences.

I remember once when I was looking at my old bong water cooler one night and the pump hose flew off. It shot water all over the wall and nearly into an electrical outlet. It didn't make me not want to water cool, it just made me a little more careful. :)

LOL.

I used to have a sign that I put on my PC at a lan.

"I dont put my hands all over your girlfriend, please return the favor and keep your hands off my PC"

Similar to one my dad has on his toolbox, but that will be removed by the swearfilter.

If I were you I would not give up on watercooling, but I might try and make it all fit into my case.
So you can lock your case up and keep people out of it.
