If you haven't seen it this is Stefan Rosers lap of the Nurburgring
in the late 1980's 460bhp rear wheel drive Ruf 911.

No electronic aides just a bit of oversteer here, a bit of driver skill there, a whiff of opposite lock just over there, all with some trees and bridges and stuff to make sure Stefan did not fall asleep on what looks like a hot sunny day in Germany

Anyhow, less of the talk, take it away Mr Roser....

LOL "just a bit of oversteer"
Thanks Andy, i havent gotten to see an in car around the ring. That was great!
Was that a Ruf test lap to validate the car before sale? That guy was having a great time but he certainly had his hands full. Thanks for hosting and posting this, i enjoyed it ;)

Glad people enjoy'd it.

I think it was more a bit of fun than a proper test. They also took some pictures from the side of the track and there is just smoke pouring off the rear tyres aound some of the corners :)

The RUF video is awesome. I had it on VHS about 8 years ago. It was a RUF promotional video called "Fascination on the Nurburgring" Stefan Roser aka "Sideways Stefan" is an amazing driver.

I was reading one of my british car mags before I got the video (where I found out about it) and they had a contest and two lucky winners got to ride in that very car with him around the Ring. Needless to say they were scared     less they said. IIRC on the second lap taking one of the winners around, he had a blowout on the rear tire at about 130mph, which completely destroyed the rear fender and body work. The passanger said it didn't even phase Stefan, he just calmly brought the car to rest on the side of the track.

I will see if I can find the magazine article tonight if anyone is interested.

I envy a man who can drive a 911 faster than myself, I've grown up living the life of fine german engineering, dads a retired factory certified tech, been around early aircooling 911's to the last of the legendary aircooleds ala 993 TTS

from the video it is very evident that its an older porsche.. those things love to swing out the back end during turns. but if you can keep it under control as its sliding out its a great ride.

O_O

what a driver, I'd have had bowel control problems after the 2nd or 3rd turn as a passenger in that car.

Nice driving

BTW, I was looking at the track and it looked really familiar to a track I saw on Project Gotham Racer 2.
Check it out:

Yeah.. its called the Nurburgring, its a race track in Germany.
GT4 / Forza also have a version of it, not bad either, still nothing like the real deal.
There is more to the track aswell, there is a section which goes through a stadium.

Hehe now we're talking.

I've driven the ring (in fact my car has a ring sticker on the back of it) on two trips down their and watched the 24 hour rate on another trip down there.

There's another video of a porsche in snow which is even more impressive.

^^^ Lucky :/

If and when I goto germany, I hear an early 911 calling my name... pref a 3.8RSR powered 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR clone... just to truck around the 'ring in style. :D
