View Full Version : Dry Ice party @ 5 april

Jort
03-29-2005, 01:31 PM
For the people who don’t know me I am Jort.(or chillingdude a week ago:p)
Got some experience with oc’ing and modding, a month ago i did a dry ice run with a friend.
He had an FX-55 that did 3.3 ghz on his Vapochill Ls, we managed to get 3.5 Ghz (http://www.reviewers.be/images/post/screen1.JPG) out of it with dry ice.
Today i am going to announce you that where going bigger and better, unfortunely my friend couldn’t be here because hes studying.
Now i started to build my first container a month ago and it was a goody.(made it @ school)
But there where some negative things about it, for example: it was only for A64.
Then my goal was that my container could fit all sockets(P4 478,P4 Lga 775 socket A, A64)
So i started drawing and got it ready, so i tought hey wth why don’t i sell them to other people.

There where some people interested and i was collecting the material to make them @ home.
Now i tought by myself hey why don’t I orginaze a party where we could test the new containers and just oc for fun.
But fun ? Whats more fun to make a world record at the same time.
So i opened a few threads on forums where members live not to far away,
and i ask them to bring there fasted stuff with them and make a combo of all that stuff and make a superb system.
But 2 days ago a new WR came on tweakers.net and i paniced,
we just needed an good FX-55 and we could bring that WR down to the botten and we belgium oc’ers be on the top of the orb.
Suddenly a shop(www.hofline.be) thats providing review material for www.hardewaren.be
reacted on the question and they said they have a spare FX-55 and some other top notch material that we could use to break the current record.
Now www.hofline.be is now our main sponser for this event, 1000x thanks :toast:

This event is taking place at 5 april behind the place where i live.
There is going to be around 50kg of dry ice, maybe i can work out that there is even liquid nitrogin on the party.
If i can get transported to here

These rigs are going to be cooled by dry ice and maybe ln² for sure,
these is for personal reasons because me as an overclocker like’s to get the max out his hardware.

- A64 S937* 3000+(1.8ghz) “0439VPEW 0029”(just got lucky when i bought it)
I got 2.95 (http://users.telenet.be/jortcollijn/A64_overclocking/2948mhz.JPG) ghz out of it with watercooling, temps where about 40°, mobo msi k8n neo2 plat)
* lost 2 pins while it fell of the table but still working like a scharm :D :stick:

- Pentium 4 2.8 ghz “SL79K costa rica 4408A998 0675”
I managed to get 3.8 ghz out of this one,
mobo i used is a msi 865G neo 2 pls and watercooling.
This time where going to use an Dfi lanparty 865PE
(bought it to my friend with barton, i could lend it a few days, he's using my 2nd setup)

- Amd xp barton 2500+ (1.8ghz) “0328TPAW”
My friend Simon got that 2.6 ghz stable with an epox 8RDA+

- Pentium 4 Lga 775 3.2ghz no pics or info
Friend got 4.8 ghz (http://users.telenet.be/alz/28.JPG) out of it with watercooling, he is studying atm so he cant be there.
He said i could use it a few days, mobo is an abit....(info will be updated)

And the best at last,
- Amd 64 FX-55 2.6ghz ”0509 BPMW 0143”*
Not tested yet :p

We are going to use a few other stuff apart from the cpu offcourse

- Ati radeon X800xt
- 2 x Nvidia 6800GT pci-x Sli*
- Ocz VX pc 4000 or maybe even pc 4800*
- Ocz powerstream 600W*
- Asus A8N sli deluxe*
* provided by www.hofline.be

I update when i got more info to share;)

Happy oc’ing and see you next week

i've got a question,
the FX-55 i am telling does anyone know if its a good stepping?

i searched the forums and found that OPB has about the same but a different week.
i hope it a goody, i would like to go till 3.5 ghz again. its a nice speed:)

edit: damn didn't looked good, where 3500+

mhh w'll need to test it before 5 april then and work out a sollution

3.5ghz from dryice is hard. 3475mhz or alittle over for a 1m or pifast is already pushing the envelope on heat IMO..

GL, but I don't see ya with a new FX55 hitting over 3.5ghz :)

Old cores are best

Maybe you should get a DFI NF4 instead of the Asus SLI

When you're benching on the limit you shouldn't use the Asus because it isn't a great mobo.

3dmark 05 and maybe 01 and 03, w'll try for them all.
maybe pifast 2nd and superpi and aquamark too offcourse.

where going to hunt all world records.
i'am just to optimistic i think:p:

dfi sli slots are to close to each other:(
maybe i can sqeeze the container so it fits between the cards.

remember that 3dmark favors ATI card (I think, isnt that true) and aquamark favors Nvidia. Remember to post back when u break the records.

Jort

Highest suicide screen of cpu-z on 2693 Mhz (http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=10666)

262 Mhz was max we could get out of this memory, it was brandnew so not burned in.
We pushed 3.4V true it, when we pushed 3.5 or 3.6V memtest86 gave errors

The cpu clocked above our expectations because its an FX-55 with a new stepping.
The FX-55 reached the highest stable clocks at 1.92 vcore , more or less gave us unstable clocks.

These score's are all untweaked, because sefferal new windows installation and problems with the internet so we couldn'd look up the tweaks.

This was the first time we did something like this. First we had to find the max of the cpu and the memory and then the SLi working.
We got it working this afternoon but when everything was set to go, 3dmark05 was craching like hell.
We learned well from this lesson and w'll do better next time

I would like to thank www.hofline.com for sponsering the hardware that we used for this attempt
See ya around :toast:

When booting up, we were greeted with this lovely image. I'll give you the short version of what it says:
funky gpu detected, you'll pay for this, I'm going to give you hell!!
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2001.jpg

If funky is what you want, funky is what you get and this is about as funky as it gets :)
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2002.jpg

Here you can see my 3 stooges doing what they do best: following my orders :D One to hold the hard disk drive, one to hold the dvd-rom drive, and one to type and click for me. Is this cool or what :feesten:
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2003.jpg

Jort hacking away at those poor chunks of dry ice, getting out all his frustrations from the previous day:
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2004.jpg

Jort as always turns to me for my professional guidance and expertise =-). You can just read the words spelled out on his face: "It won't boot! What do I do now?" :D
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2005.jpg
Switch on the power supply offcourse :D (just kidding folks :p)

Find the magic number =-):
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2006.jpg

minimus eruptus... or maybe it's just one of the hold down screws that froze over :):
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2007.jpg

A nice thick coat of ice that had formed around the copper base kept out of harms way by a thick layer of Armaflex. This stuff is 10 times better then that wich you get in the Brico :D:
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2008.jpg

This picture really does not do any justice to the conditions we were benching in the night before. We were sitting outside in 4°C with nothing but our pullovers(?) and our amd sponsored hats to keep us warm, testing the memory and cpu on Jort's Neo2 because we were having no luck at all with the DFI NF4. Me and Jort called it a night at about 3am and confiscated just about all the blankets and believe me, there were a lot, all the sleeping bags and the only matrass. The rest came in at around 6 o clock in the morning. The 4 of them had to share one blanket, 1 sleeping bag, 1 very thin inflatable capmping matrass and a foam undermatrass... needles to say, they gave up after half an hour and thus pullen and all nighter :D You wouldn't say by the look on Troid/Metreox 's face now would you :
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2009.jpg

Jort already posted all the screens that count. This one you'll just have to our word for: This was the absolute maximum we got out of it. No longer screenshot stable, it wasn't even cpuz validate stable :D One click further on the clockgen HTT bar caused the system to lock up:
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2010.jpg

On this picture you can already see a small circular form of frost forming. This picture was taken only seconds after the Armaflex was removed from the back of the board but I was too late to take a picture. If I would have been in time, you would NOT have seen any type of frost; it was that well isolated. All of this in great contrast to the previous day when frost was forming in even the most unlikely places and as we believe, eventually caused the DFI to stop functioning:
http://users.skynet.be/MesjogemeH/DI%20party/DI%20party%2011.jpg

On the first day it was as if all the forces in the world tried to stop me from going to this Dry Ice party, culminating in my car braking down, wich we were able to fix luckily and in a way that above else made me feel "hardcore" (you'll understand when computer_xp has uploaded the pics ;p)
*edit*
this is what I meant with feeling harcore :D:
We fixed my Asus ;) car with plastic tightening strips that were included with C_X's OCZ520 psu :) it got me to Jort and all the way back home without a hick-up :D
http://users.pandora.be/matenhen/asuspower.JPG
*edit*
But... I had a wonderfull time, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Jort, who has spared time nor effort to make this Dry Ice party to the wonderfull experience it was, and Hofline for sponsoring such an amazing but (wispelturige) setup. The FX-55 turned out to be a real gem and the DFI did manage to convince me of it's capabilities on day 2. Even the VX worked pretty darn well :) just the XFX 6800 GT's in SLi were a major disappointment.

PS: the odd windows features you see in the first 2 screenshots were not the result of a fuxored windows but due to the 4 nightly horseman that couldn't catch their sleep ;)

we did break a record, the highest FX-55 on dry ice.

and we don't have to steel Ricky & Pedro's Fx-55 because ours is better then there's
we did 3450 on dice and they hit that on cascade:)

LN2 is much cheaper then an cascade :D

let's hope the FX can handle the extreme cold because I've heard they stop functioning at around -130°C
