Yesterday my friend martijn aka Epsilon and I have made this LN2 container.

The base is 25mm thick and has a diameter of 55mm. On top of that we have brazed the spiral that's in the innovaCOOL rev3.0 and a copper tube with a outer diameter of 54mm and a height of approximately 200mm.

For mounting we have made an extra ring around the tube.
The mounting is to be made but will consist of a 5mm thick PVC or nylon plate with a 54mm hole in it so it will sit on the extra ring.

The last two pics show why we made the container round.
It is very easy to isolate and no parts are sticking out.
Of course the isolation still needs to be cut but thats all going to happen when i am making the mounting.

Looks very nice m8 :toast: That base might be too thick for LN2, I've heard 1/2" is best.
Looks similar to Chilly1's units.

GL with it

Thats where i got the inspiration for my design from :)

About the base. As far as i know the thicker the base the better it is for ln2.

with what do you lapped it???

I used grid 1200 + a couple of times polishing it with a cleaner called commandant 4 for the bottom.
For the rest of the container a grid 600 + 1 time polish with commandant 4.
The lapping itself is done on a glass plate.

Update:
Today the material for the hold down arrived and i made one directly.
On the following pictures you can see how the isolation an hold down are mounted on the container:

Container + isolation around the socket:

first ring of isolation added:

What material did you use for the hold down?

i think it's withe PVC

It's called HMPE.
Most "plastic" cuttingboards are made of it.

that base is WAAAAYYYY too thick, 1/2" is better, even my 5/8 was too thick

Can u explain why? (have u tested it?)
Like moddolicous sayd i thought thicker was better.

i'd hazard a chance at too much thermal resistance (even though it is copper), resulting in most of the LN2 chilling copper rather than CPU.

yeah, I've tried "up to" 5/8 with DI and LN2, even 5/8" is a bit too thick, meaning the cpu puts heat more easily into the copper than the ln2 5/8" away from the IHS can rapidly remove.....
SOOO....
It takes forever for the base to cool AND when it does cool, a slight load will make it jump around...
With a 1/2" base, it's kinda a balance, as the cool sinks down, the heat is pulled up and it just kind of "chills".... Now, 1/4 is way too thin, you get MAD fluctuations in temp... 3/8 is better, but I think 7/16-1/2" is BEST :D

Put it in a layth machine and turn it down some.

A small update:

http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~vnrswk/DSCF1846.jpg

The holddown is completely finished.
The lower white piece of HPME will go on the underside of the mobo on top of that (between the lower white piece and the mobo) a piece of isolation, the rest will go on top of the mobo.

hey The doctor same material arrived here yesterday and allready made 1 holddown

thickness is 10mm
