Hello

I just can’t get my Asus P4P800 booting with over 1.6vcore. I heard something about a Prescott protection (max 1.6v), is that right?

yes that's right

Ahh damn. Any modded bios? To prevent that?

Are you talking about 1.6v for real? Or 1.6v in your bios? The p4p won't boot @ 1.6 ..try 1.675/1.65

1.6v in bios.. It wont boot with anything higher then 1.6.

it wont boot at 1.65 or 1.625, but it should boot at 1.6 and 1.675.

Again, there is a built-in limitation so the Pressys can't boot above 1.6 on 865/875 boards.

You can do an overvolt mod, but you'll need a soldering gun and a VR.

try 1.675(although thats kinda high for a prescott, it should work)

With their extreme thermal issues, most users have discovered the hard way what happens when you pass more than 1.6v through a Prescott core.

Unless you are on phase-change cooling, I would advise against it.

I agree you should have aggressive cooling, but most users?

I'd like to see some attribution for this statement.

Mine doesnt let me go past 1.47 and anything over 245 FSB causes windows XP to revert to the old grey interface.

Hi

I would like to know if it’s the same on Asus P4C800? I just got one today

And yes, its with a mach1 r404a. So I don’t see the problem with over 1.6v. It’s only for bench anyway

I have personally fried 2 socket 478 Prescotts with 1.55 volts.

MB- P4P800-E dlx + droop mod & prescott 3.0
chosen: get:
1,4 1,33
1,45 1,36
1,5 1,41
1,55 1,46
1,6 1,5
after going higher comp didn`t boot
I pushed prescott down to 1,5 GHz & pushed V core up BUT:
chosen: get:
1,625 0,93
1,65 0,94
1,7 0,99
1,75 1,00
1,95 1,06
It seems to be real becouse wchen I chouse v-core higher than 1,6 not only the voltage droops down a lot but also tenperature goes much down.....
What`s the problem? I cant get v-core higher than 1,5....

It will boot just try with fsb=100 MHz and check voltage in bios monitor...

Sorry.. But I dont understand what you mean, Fishman.

I just cant see how it sould work.

I was testing my stuff and i find a wery strange think. When i set Voltage to 1.6V comp didn`t boot. But when I set FSB to 100MHZ (standard is 15*200MHz it is 3.0 presscott) comp boot. W check the voltage in bios monitor. The voltage was not 1.6 but about 1V. Some people are saying that it is e prescot limitation. I dont belive in that opiniob. Why? Becouse avryone has a prblem with seting woltage to 1.6 but the real voltage after drop mode is lower than you set. So my real voltage is lower, but i also have problem with seting higher than1.6volt.

My board does this with a Northwood....any fixes for this?

I noticed it too. What I did was raised the Vcore to 1.675V or 1.685V then it booted.

Thats a little high for my taste. I'd be comfortable with about 1.65v max, especially since it overvolts a little at idle.

Ah, interesting find this link.
I jsut started playing with my P4P800 deluxe again as it stopped booting into bios.

I thought I fried bios during a wrongly-done clear so I got a new bios chip.
Now it still has black screen and won't post at all even though all fans and such work.

Finally I remembered about that voice thing in bios so I plugged in a speaker and it says "board failed cpu test"

Guess my northwood 2.4 got tired of 3.0 :(

When I get a replacement, I will remember this thread, as I never played much with voltages on that board.
