I've just got a Sapphire X800 Vanilla PCI-E, is it possible to flash to something else, maybe X800XL or better?

I've included pics of the GPU and memory chips... (might be a little deformed cuz i used the "fisheye" function on my cam)

Don't think so, only vivos I think are possible.

I dunno... take a closer look at that core ;)

the core may be the same but the PCB may be totally different. So post pics of the PCB. I haven't heard of any such mods but hey you never know until you try.

I would think that it would be possible to do the pro flash. Its an 8 pipe, 400/350 clocks isnt it?

It's actually got 12 pipes, but it does run at 400/350.

X800XL uses different core than X800/VIVO/PRO/XT, so a definate no for that.

If the bridges on your card are not broken it should be as simple as doing the flash trick to it.

You mean the "pipes", right :) The cores of plain and XL X800's are the same, aren't they?? So it should be possible to simply flash the X800 to X800XL ....

i'm not sure actually. They are both r430's aren't they? If they laser cut the pipes then obviously softmodding is a no-go.

I guess you should ask Mr. Rivatuner (aka unwinder) about it, he might know.

X800 and X800XL (R430 11nm) look identical, however, X800 usually has much slower ram and probably you will not be able to run it X800XL speeds anyway.

Yeah but can't I just lower the memory speed by using RaBIT?

Here's a pic of the PCB:

Anyways I read this (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2290&p=7) article over @ AnandTech, quote: "The Radeon X800 is sort of the inverse of the X850 Pro: its basically an underclocked version of the X800 Pro"... Might there be some truth to it?

comparing that picture there, to the ones I can see on newegg, thats just a X800 Pro under a different name.

Is there anything you can do to a x800np? How well do they overclock? What about an x800pro?
Also, the x800xl are based on a different core and based on the .11 process(but not low-k) so you can't do much to it. I understand using an x800xl would be pretty useless, no?

Some of you guys info is mixed up:

X800 and X800XL ARE both .11 micron R430 chips. The X800 and X800XL use THE EXACT SAME PCB. I made a thread about this on [H] and everyone agreed. If you look @ the newegg pictures, the Sapphire X800XL and X800 Vanilla PCI-E are the exact same card. GC20 is rated for 1000mhz, so a flash is VERY possible.

I used to have a PCI-E X800 Pro, and it requires a power connector, as the X800 and XL dont. It is NOT possible to flash to a PCI-E X800 Pro because the PCB is different, but the XL flash is VERY possible because the cards are exactly the same. My feeling is that sapphrie is just using different bios's, or laser-cutting the cards.

I too ordered this Vanilla X800 PCI-E card in blue etc etc, it gets here tommorow. I got it off newegg las wed.

yea, it says R430 there, so a flash to anything other than an x800xl is not feasible.

i don't see why a flash to x800xl wouldn't work, but are you willing to try!?!

Is it possible to unlock any pipes on a X800 AGP card?

Dillusion

To my knowledge there is no X800 AGP. Only X800 SE, PRO, XT, XTPE

Can the X800 SE be "upgraded"?

I believe the SE's are laser cut.

Actually I havent gotten my PCI-E mobo yet, but it's coming tomorrow so I'll tell u about OC'ing the card then...
Anyways, Dillusion, are you going to try to flash the card, when u get it tomorrow, plz return with your results in that case. I wouldn't dare flashing the card to X800XL without some proof that it works... As far as I know we would be the first ones to flash our X800 Vanillas :S

Heh im not about to make a 289$ paperweight. Not that i care, i could just be an a-hole and RMA it to newegg if it breaks, but i CANT STAND being without my main rig for mroe than 2 days. I guess we'll be waiting for some SOB to do it first, if you hear of something before me, be sure to let me know.

BTW- From the look of it, the stock cooler isnt so 'bad'. Its all copper much like the X800/9800XT HSF. Im getting good temps, even in this SFF.

mehhh hasnt anyone tried it out yet??
flashing an x800vanilla to x800xl that is?

if you flash it and it fails, just flash it back, either blind flash, or use a pci card. Not a big deal.

Theres two XL bioses out now. one from powercolor with 2.0NS ram, and one from sapphire with 1.6Ns ram, who wnats to try.

I just flashed the card. Everything works fine, clocks are 400/490, samsung 2ns ram. BUT.... i dont think the 4 pipes opened, i believe theyre laser-cut. im only getting 4600-4800 in multi fill rate tests, so that means im only at 12 pipes :(

Nice!
I'll try it out too now...

I'll come back with the results later!

EDIT:
I forgot that I had put my floppy into a thousand pieces (die die motherfooker).

I tried ATI WinFlash but it turns out that it wasn't compatible with PCI-E. Is a PCI-E compatible version on the way?

I thought the core on the x800xl was different somehow. Haven't heard if this works or not anywhere...

did anyone successfully open the extra 4 pipelines.....I've got a X800 with Samsung GDDR3 2ns R430 core wanting to go X800XL.....there seems to be a bios for 256MB Sapphire X800XL PCIe 2ns Samsung on Techpowerup......
