Well i have an old 233mhz imac and decided to o/c it. so i found out where the voltage modifying resistors are and the combos (doesnt even have jumpers :( ) and resoldered 2 EXTREMELY small resistors. Iam running at 300mhz now :D . O and while i was at it i scraped off the thermal pad and put some ceramique there instead. Will post pics later. i have a pic of one of the resistors on my finger and it just looks like a little black speck.

b/ci could :D i was practicing my soldering skills, besides the fact it used to run linux unbearably slow.

Wow, you are mad. Put some cooling on that thing and give it 1GHz! :D

Good job JSU. I did that with an older 9600 cpu, but I had to add a fan to keep it stable. My mac is no longer my "quiet" computer. I did add artic silver 5. I got an extra 100mhz.

Haha, Nice job JSU. Took me awhile to figure out why we were looking at a picture of ur finger with a wart on it, and then I realized it's a pic of the tiny resistor rofl. That musta been tough. Err... it is the risistor right lol, I dunno what else it would be.

yup sure did, reults in lower battery time though :(

That is what I call Xtreme.

Tried water cooling an old mac one time with a fish tank pump, two styrofoam cups and liquid nails stuff. Worked fine until we got a leak and it shorted the whole system.

Nice work though JSU.

i thought Imacs were more for browsing and such, i dont see a reason to oc them

The reason to OC them is to prove that you can do it :D. I mean that is why most of the extreme OC'ers attempt to break 3Dmark records and various other records.

If you don't see a reason to overclock something you shouldn't be on this forum :)))

Nice OC there! Now get crunching with it :)

Reminds me of the time I overclocked my Zaurus, much shorter battery life and the thing got hot to the touch.

ok don't over do ur confidance, it is an apple ;) hey if you want to though, more power to you, i was thinkin' about puttin my amd k6-2 up for a cruncher but need a mobo and a spare hard drive

JSU
04-19-2005, 05:08 PM
you dont think it can hang with a 133mhz mmx? i do, though only by a hair :D . seriously though it should be equivelant to a 600mhz P3

04-22-2005, 02:49 PM
gunna doubt it, but only one way to find out....maybe the pr is very good like amd is to intel low speed hi pr you know what i mean

there wasn't a 133MHz pentium with MMX. Also, yes it will perform around that, PPC processors dont need a numbering system because theyre in their own little world! :woot:

yea the mmx instruction set was introduced on the 166/200mhz procs wasnt it?
ahhh good old socket 7 ive got an old k6-2 but the only spare psu ive got is a dell and it wont work with my amd boards :( otherwise that would be on crunching duty :)

yes it was introduced to the 166-266 mobile but not the 133 infact the 266 was a mobile celeron....25micron process...they over clock like hell too i had one @ 333 on a super socket 7 board but the chip burnt out before i could cpu-z it

K6-2s are socket 7s.. I myself have been looking for a K6-2+ or K6-3 proc to overclock in an awesome socket 7 mobo I have, but haven't gotten around to it..
