I have been one to say that fwd cars torque steer,

Torque steer is only a problem for wee men and women:rofl:.

Torque steer is only a problem for wee men and women:rofl:.

its also a problem with cars that put down power through the same wheels you turn with. Although the term is torque steer, so based on 99% of the fwd cars on the market that have very little torque your correct.

My fwd has 228.8bhp and 252lb/ft and its all good, my very small built brother in law is the only person that showed any bother, Ended up on the wrong side of the road first time he drove it lol But I do believe that if you have any kind of strength in your arms it should be no bother.

only thing you really need to do to fix tq steer, is turn the wheel a little to the side while accellerating, and hold it, then you go straight, least that's how it was with my gsr. my brother couldnt understand the concept, in fact, my brother scares me because just about all cars in first or 2nd gear, he turns the stteering wheel allllloooooveeerrr the place in order to "keep it straight" yet when i drivet he car, i just hold the wheel in the straight position. i dont get it.

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb36/71bryan/P1010209.jpg

even tho im supposed to be 71 (hence the name) they changed the rules and now my categories number must start with a 6 and no higher than 650
so 617 it is then (the one behind me got a warning and changed his number befor the final so they let that one slip)
oh and the side pods are yellow because im somewhat accident prone (on purpose most of the time) and we ran out of blue side pods
EDIT and thats also the reason why theres only a 6 on the left side

It is a little expensive, but if you can find some surplus from teams, you might get a good deal.

bother or not, its not a natural thing for me. Also its unatural to run a car with fwd, when you accelerate you shift weight to the rear effectively loosing traction to the driving wheels.

I used to anchor my arm on the door when I drove my friends sts. 300hp/300lb of torque through the front wheels. It did not like keeping straight as the engine produced massive torque on hard acceleration and would wonder around. Although he was used to it. Personally I learned to drive in a rwd, and probably will only buy rwd cars.

Sweet, one of the fiew civics I have seen on the net that does not look like rice. I actually like that model civic looks wise. Sounds like a blast to drive too. The only thing I would have done differently is put in a recirculating blow off valve to keep things stealth.:D
I hope your going to get the fender painted to match the car.

Thanks, its a lot of fun, it's not a speed demon, but it makes going from A to B a little more fun. I'd like to get it repainted soon but since I go to school at Ohio University it's not uncommon to come out and find something wrong with my car. So far in the past 2 years I've been hit with a couple beer bottles, had my radar detector stolen (had to be drunks because they left all my tools) and punched off my corner mirror. So, until I graduate, it's just going to keep on taking a beating.

torque steer really isnt a huge problem on my car as it makes 280 lb/ft stock and as jagking said mazda did do a great job with the LSD and the perfect 50/50 split, although when i put that new CAI on i'll be making closer to 300 lb/ft torque steer might be a problem :D
Also i love the A3, i was looking at getting one until i saw my MS3 on the showroom floor XD

Got my first car in March on my birthday. I've been working to hard pay for it and insurance (gas, and other things) at a local pharmacy for about a year already.

Walked into a Volkswagen dealership looking for a rabbit, after seeing new GTI prices, and then saw it at the front of the lot. Right there I fell in love .
Got it for 21k after tax and financing used with 12,500 miles (totally spotless) . Later that night my dad found it on the internet, SAME EXACT CAR right down to vin number for only 20k.

We went back to the dealership and they took $1,000 off after we already signed for it!!! Big thumbs up to three county VW .

Excuse my pic whorage I just got a "wee bit" picture happy :D

S52 is limited to 240bhp if i'm not mistaken because of the restricted intake manifold and some other stuff?
More than just the intake manifold... Swapping to the M50 manifold and making some other modifications (including a DME remap) helps to get some of that power back... However, the S50B32 engine is a double VANOS engine (variable intake and exhaust, instead of just intake like the S52), has a different lifter design (allowing for the higher redline), has a different cylinder head design, and (as I recall) the S50B32 was also equipped with six individual throttle bodies. The S50B32 was expensive to make and, as I recall, BMW wasn't too keen on selling the Euro. spec M(3) cars in the US due to concerns over the price being too high... so they cooked up the [cheaper to make and less powerful] S52B32.

The trouble is when you get addicted to rwd cars fwd-ones just seem not to take the corners properly. :D

So true... :D

mad_skills
08-25-2008, 01:34 PM
That is just plain ridiculous. Even my father's 170bhp E39 has double vanos and they didn't put it in the Z3 M, US or EU matters not.
Same with the E30 M3 and Australia, due to to numerous reasons, it wasn't shipped.
The thing is that due to emission they often have to diminish the power of the engine and US has different rules than Europe.
Have you done any modifications to your car, engine wise?

Petra
08-26-2008, 11:35 AM
Have you done any modifications to your car, engine wise?

Not yet--mostly just maintenance stuff for the time being (slowly working through replacing bushings all over the place, window sliders, etc.). The most cost effective way to get power outta the S52 seems to be forced induction, but that's pretty expensive... Either way, I have to wait and work on stabilizing the business before I'll ever really be able to go out and play with the cars.

...doesn't help that my future brother-in-law has been trying to convince my fiancee and I to pick up an E30 to turn into a track car so that he can have a couple more 'track buddies'.

mad_skills
08-26-2008, 05:17 PM
Doesn't matter, important is that you have the car and there will be time for you to mod it.
Really glad to see those around here, Z3 M is really a proper old school hardcore bimmer, take care of it as i am sure you do.:)
I am kinda trying to gather some money and get me an inline-six E30, 2.5 or something, not some offspring but a decent one, just for a start because no way i could afford an E30 M3 in good nick.:D

Whoa, that's way different than the Accords they gave us over here in the US.

Indeed, the Accord is quite diffrent here. But thats most of the cars too, only model from Honda thats the same in europe and US is CR-V and Jazz (Fit).

This is the new Accord Tourer (europe).

It were released early 2006 here, the best looking hatchback over here.
Totaly diffrent from all other cars here, put Toyota and all the compeditors one generation back.
This is the rear end of it;

Goddamnit i want one of those!
A small note about the Fit (USA & Asia), Jazz (Europe); "Honda originally intended to name the car Fitta, but the word's meaning in some languages — in Swedish, Danish and Norwegian, "fitta", "fisse" or "fitte" is a rather crude slang term for vagina — resulted in a last-minute change to Jazz." Thats why it got two names, same car! :ROTF::D

But once I get a job my parents are buying me a car (a P38 or Country Range Rover to be exact, which is why I need a job so I can pay for gas). Zytek, with a good detail, that car should look good as new! How many miles are on that thing?

255,000
The previous owner commuted about 100 miles daily to and from college.

It still runs excellently. Everything works :D
I was rather surprised that everything worked and it drove as good as new when I took a look at it.
It's been a good car so far
It also gets 25 to 30 mpg CITY

I'm gonna do the Euro headlights, air filter, and a new stereo head unit (stock speakers are amazing, so they're staying), and then when I get more money, I will do suspension, brakes, and maybe new wheels and tires. :)

25 to 30 mpg in city? :ROTF: Yeah right and my Vectra does 60mpg in city... About the speakers, in our W124 300TD the stock speakers were utter crap so my dad got them swapped with better ones. I'm pretty sure the previous owner has installed better speakers in your car.

I'm not saying if it's good or not. I'm saying that it's not really possible to get under 10l/100km in city with that car, unless your city is a straightaway with few traffic lights.

What the heck are Opel's anyway? Many, many, many moons ago our family took a tour of Europe and we ended up renting an Opel and, if I remember correctly, it was essentially a tricked out Mustang... or Capri... or something. Might even have it mixed up with a GM - was long ago. All I remember is that it went like freakin' snot - man I still have "Dad meets autobahn and thinks he's faster than a Porsche" nightmares.....

I have three cars, I don't have a picture uploaded of my 98 cavalier.

But my other two are

87 Honda Civic - This car is the backup and its rougher than that as someone ran a stop sign in front of my wife two weeks ago, he has no insurance so that sucks. Its got 247,000 miles on the car, but is on its third engine...these old carburated engines just weren't the best.
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k111/lemans81/IMGP0088e.jpg

93 Cavalier - Is sitting right now with a blown head gasket, which is expected its got 184,000 miles on it. It has had an alternator and water pump replaced and thats it in its life(I bought it off my dad who bought it new). Its been an awesome car, but I haven't had the time to fix it so its been down for about a month now.

EDIT Guess I should tell you what I drive and Ill try to get pics of it later.

Car= I drive an 07 ST Focus -- American edition. Stock has 150 Hp. I have put intake on it and a chip should have around 170 ish probably a little lower. Going to stage two turbo it when I get out of college and have a little bit of extra cash

Motorcycle I have a 04 Honda CBR1000rr with full Yoshimura Titanium exhaut, KNN airfilters and power comander chip set. Its my baby.

lsd and the computer. ECU has an active trq managment system that controls the trq so the wheel doesnt shoot off in one direction.. If i disable that, all i get is wheelspin, no torque steer.. lol:yepp:

I think I need an LSD on mine. The ECU has a go at stopping wheelspin on corner exits, but it just ends up dumping boost and speed rather than letting it track wide.

when you go to the track with the MS3 hold down the DSC button when you start the car, It disables Tracktion control and Stability managment(system that manages the trq steer) This way you will only have the LSD functioning, the ecu will leave the control to you, aka modulate the throttle.

2008 Dodge Dakota Laramie 4x4. Almost fully loaded with the 4.7 V8. So far, it just has an aftermarket airfilter, an intake mod to trick the computer into thinking the incoming air is colder than it is, and a 3" cat-back exhaust. Next it's getting a tuner, and eventually maybe a lift and some bigger tires. This is my third Dakota, and fourth Dodge truck.

I snapped my cross-pin in my rear axle a couple days ago and pulled the cover off yesterday. This is what I found. I was building a bigger axle anyways, just need to get it done sooner now.
The ford 7.5 wasn't designed to be run behind the torquey 4.0, especially with a locker and especially with my heavy foot abuse and large tires.
http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/4131/755de3.jpg
What awaited me when I opened the cover, that's a piece of crosspin laying in the housing.

No no, the rear axle is a 7.5 (7.5" ring gear diameter). A 460 (7.5 liter) would have a hard time fitting in my engine bay. My rig has a 4.0 from a 94 explorer.
The diesel you're thinking of is the ford 7.3 IDI and powerstroke 7.3 neither of which share anything with the 460.

If you're racing, I'd go with the S-Tech's over Eibach Pro-kits or Sportlines. From what I've read, the S-Tech's have a higher spring rate than Eibachs, although I couldn't find any actual spring rate specs. For the Neon, it's 201/197 lbs. front/rear.

I don't race race (someday hopefully) but, I do participate in track day time trials with a car club that I also autocross with.

$$$ is always the problem. What I want to do and what I can afford to do are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Ideally, two cars. But that's just not an option right now. So, I'd like to figure out a compromise somewhere between street and track performance....leaning slightly toward track....I do have to commute with the car too.

And then there's this problem I have that I really, really want a rear wheel drive car. So I'm constantly fighting myself dropping $$$ on a real suspension vs. saving it towards a RWD car and just leaving the neon alone.

I hate my indecision:D [/venting]

Thanks man! I personally love the new style. I've always liked the older models but this one has a little bit more "grown up" feel to it on the inside and out, plus the added space to make it more functional.

Next up on my list of mods is some wheels/tires/coilovers and then it will really be where I want it to be. For now I'll just rock the winter tires--but then again, driving it int he snow is a hoot!

Also, one last thing--try opening the video in VLC media player. It should work fine if you have all the updated codecs.

I knew you folks behind the Atlantic don't know anything about the other world but this was surprising:ROTF:.. Opel is just as old and famous German car manufacturer as BMW, Mercedes Benz or Volkswagen.. GM brand since 1929. Nothing to do With Capris or Mustangs or any Fords.. My Omega MV6 is the same car that has been sold in America under the name Cadillac Catera and Opel Corsa is called Vauxhall Nova in the UK. Also many other Opel models are sold in the US under Chevrolet and Saturn brand.. Here's a small guide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel

Yes, 45% LSD, rolls nicely both wheels on wet tarmac, sometimes even on dry.. And with automatic transission including winter program it's very good car to go in winter conditions also. About reliability, what can i say, it's Opel :) My problems with the Omega have been small oil and water leaks in engine and transmission. Nothing serious.. Strut mountings i had to change in front, the front wheel supports are a bit too light for this weighted car.. 270 000km already driven so not a miracle if some problems appear.. Rust is ofcourse one little trouble with these over 10year old rides.. But very nice ride when in good shape and nice acceleration in highway speeds, not a 0-100km/h rocket..

Yeah, I knew when I bought my car that Opel's are not known for great reliability (not the worst but not the best). I like my Vectra but I hate the fact that almost every Vectra (excluding Sport models) have very long gear ratios. That kills the acceleration and doesnt improve the fuel economy that much.

:ROTF::D
