These chips have the same core as the other dothan chips minus 1mb of cache. Seems like they would be wicked performers for those on a budget if they oc'ed well. These things are damn cheap, especially for intel chips. The 1.4 dothan based celeron m's are running ~$115 right now compared to ~$250 for a 1.6 2mb dothan.

Even if you could get it up to 2.0 this'd be quite a deal, but I've heard of celerons in the past that oc'ed really well compared to their more competent cousins. Anyone else think these chips might have some potential?

AFAIK, the celeron is less than just the 1mb hacked out. they architecture itself is different in that they are even more crippled in other ways to keep the cost down. Correct me if im wrong though...

The celeron m is the EXACT same chip as the dothan with 1mb of cache disabled and no speedstep (powersaving technology).

my guess is no because intel will prolly have Psychically removed the cache to keep the price down. if the would have placed 2megs on the chip an then lock 1 meg, they would still have the cost of placing 2 megs on.
(sorry if I made a spelling mistake :( )

not physically removed. as far as I can remember the DIE size equals (had a Pentium and Celeron M).

at Banias times Celeron Ms clocked higher than the Pentium Ms, due to the fact that they have less Transistors which can fail. but Dothan changed this, because there the Celeron Ms have a FSB-Wall. a small amount goes above FSB200 and when they do so, often they go to 2,6-2,8 Ghz (best chances with modded Adapter).

the per-clock speed of the Dothan Celeron Ms is comparable with an A64.

My Celeron M 340 won't do more than 1900MHz :( For some reason I can't even clock gen over 130FSB, it just jumps back down to 130FSB, no matter what i set it too.
