Would a bad ddr stick cuz windows system corruption?

i have sammy 512mb pc2700 DTL, and no matter what i do anything past 170 will corrupt some windows system file. ive had this trouble on 2 different hdd's, 2 mobos, 2 vid cards, 2 cpus.

This is my 2nd sammy ive had, the first one i broke trying to get a heat spreader off :\ and that one would go past 170 either, but ive given this stick Alot of voltage 3.02v and still wont do it. :|

You said you tried everything...did you try switching ram to another slot? 3rd maybe? Does another stick cause same probs?

Well 512mb sticks of RAM are far more more 'dense' in comparison to 256 or even 128mb sticks.. that xtra density makes it harder to overclock cuase ow you 'overhead' room to OC isn't as big or even as accesible.

I don't think you'd ever get you ram up higher than 170 and yes I would think that would cuase your windows to corrupt.

Have you swapped the IDE cable?? Seems silly but it could possibly be the cable. Also what sort of strain is being put on the PSU?? Above 170FSB to much could be therefore not providing enough power for IDE devices and causing corruption.

Just a suggestion

I have the same board using two sticks of Atlas 512, all sammy chips, running stable as a rock with all the enhancements turned on @ 184fsb.

When I had the 2200+, 171 was as high as I could go no matter what, with the 2600+ it would do 190 without enhancements.
