Got a K8NS-939 mobo that has the 3.3v cap mod done already. Went to the local Fry's store to get resistors, VR's, shrink tubing, etc. to do the psu mod that Hell Fire has posted. Well they didn't have squat, so came home with a OCZ DDR booster. Booster is supposed to be compatible with this mobo, so the question is, do I need undo the 3.3v cap mod to use the booster or will the booster still work with the mod intact.

I don't believe the cap mod will bother the booster. I am not exactly familiar with what the cap mod gains you....I take it that you are able to provide increased Vdimm? or does it just stablize the 3.3V power on the board.

Mod supplies 3.3v to memory or what ever psu 3.3 v out put is. Mod goes between 3.3v supply at 20 pin atx connector to cap near memory. Whatever 3.3v is present from psu goes to mem.

No you dont, booster works fine with the mobo AFAIK. im getting one soon.

I would set the voltage down to 2.8 - 2.9 though before plugging in the booster....the booster uses the 5V rail on the PSU and goes up to 4V, most mobos only are tested up to 3.6 - 3.8 though. :)

Thanks for the replies fellas :)
Think I'll just hold off on this.... since nobody can say "sure no problem". Got a Neo 2 on the way, which is what the booster is really for.
Got a FX55 in this Giga with some VX, and don't want to take any chances on either of them, think I'll be safe rather than sorry lol
thanks again.

If the Cap mod lets you get 3.3V then with the VX you ought to be able to get about 240 - 250 FSB 2-2-2-10 and with a little burn in you might actually get it down to 3.2 or 3.1 at those same speeds / timings. :)

250@2-2-2-10 is error free in memtest@3.3v :) and will bench 2K1 at 250x12. Just need to get to about 260-265 to be where I need to be, on this Giga or the MSI. Hoping the MSI has interleaving or at least does the Dragos better than the Giga, other wise the Giga is a great board.
