Lets say i bought a tec.
I dont understand where it would go....
Do you have to use it with a water hsf?

The peltier goes between the waterblock and a cold plate (which is just a plate of copper). The cold side of the pelt cools the cold plate and the hot side's heat dissipates into the waterblock.

You *can* use a VERY HIGH END aircooler on a *LOW POWER* pelt. for instance, my Swiftech MC462A was rated for ~80W pelts (cant remeber exactly, 2years ago). New ones can prolly take a bit more. While most pelts go with water, you can use air.

Watch out for condensation, make sure it is properly sealed up.

And an old cpu setup...

Check out my case gallery (http://homepage.usask.ca/~kdh349/) for some pics of the TEC setup and the condensation proofing involved.

Basically, a TEC is a heat pump. It transfers heat from one side to the other, plus it's inneficient, so it produces more heat than it transfers, and you wind up with an overall much larger heatload to dissipate than just a CPU. That's why a TEC usually requires watercooling, though there is a new Swiftech heatsink with a 226W TEC.
